Default Rcxel kill switch

Have been using an RcXel kill switch on my DLE 20 for almost 2 years
without a single problem. Using Futaba 8 UAP trans with a frSky 2.4
conversion. Now when I shut the trans down the engine keeps runing
when it should shut down. Have tried a new receiver and still the same.
I am using channel 5 to control the ignition switch and it does work properly
Shutting down the engine.

Any thoughts on the cause?

Gary

Do you have the fail safe set to switch the inboard switch 'off' when there is a loss of transmitter signal?

No, it has never been set but always worked in the past. I will try setting it and see what happens.

Thanks,

Gary

This is with everything hooked up, so the opti switch has a load on it? I'm assuming you gave it a few seconds to shut down? Might be time to try a new switch?

Or, you could call/write Milton at [email protected]

He's a distributor for Rcexl, knows what he's talking about.

Shutting the Tx down does not mean that the Rx is shut off as well, so the kill switch still gets the signal to go, unless the Rx output is programmed to shut down. (Futaba systems hold last position on Tx shutdown.)

This is not a Futaba failsafe issue, but rather the F/S provided in the FrSky system and its receivers. AFAIK, the FrSky FHSS receivers do have F/S on all channels, with F/S being set during the binding process, similar to Spektrum's procedure.
Pe, Futaba radios running the 7CH transmission mode have programmable throttle F/S, while any radio running in the MULTI mode, have proggramable F/S on all channels, even with the FrSky FASST compatibles. The new S-FHSS Futaba radios also have F/S on all channels.

I spoke to Milton and he said that the kill switch is supposed to Shut
Engine down if transmission lost without using failsafe. I did set up failsafe
On the receiver and it now works. Still would like to know what caused
the chg.

If the receiver keeps on sending last received good sevo position to the killswitch, how kan it shut down? It will shut down if receiver battery shuts down though.

I have mine connected to the retract switch. One flip and the engine dies right now!

I just installed one of these switches in a 55cc warbird. Mine also stays on when the TX is turned off. My RX is a Futaba 6014HS

This is the correct thing to do if available. I also believe that is what the instructions say to do. The device uses an open/closed transitor. Power on circuit closed. Power off circuit open.

Exactly[8D]
If the throttle F/S has been set correctly, then not having the ignition kill kick in if the receiver goes into F/S is not all that big a deal. Arguably, having a F/S event kill the ignition due to a very momentary signal loss is not a good idea anyway, since it will result in a deadstick, possibly at the worst time for one.
Since all my models are 30cc or smaller, I've been using IBEC's in all of them. One good characteristics of an IBEC powered ignition is that if power is lost to the the receiver (single battery/switch), there is no question as to whether the engine will stop, since power to the ignition will also be lost in that scenario.

I myself don't like an engine shut down on a failsafe, but rather an engine Idle.
If I get a glitch for a second or two I don't want a dead stick.
I had a problem once with some interference and my F/S killed my engine.
I kept thinking I had a motor problem rather than an interference problem.

I would set it up on a switch, so the engine kills when I want it, OR the Rx goes dead by battery failure.
BTW, just my thoughts. I do not have one on board, but am tempted.

I'm in agreement. In fact, I would have lost a nice model a year ago, had the failsafe shut the engine down rather than going to idle. The plane was recovered after an offending transmitter was turned back off quickly and control was regained.

+1

What if the plane that lost control, Engine went to idle and was not recovered and hit someone, Better to hit them with a dead engine than one running at idle.

This has happened and has killed people.

Milton
