Default ignition

Can someone tell me what hobby store that will give me the best price of a single cylinder DA 50 ignition module. I've only seen a price of around $149.00 I've also seen a replacement ignition of around $80.00 but concerned about how good this after market one will work. I tried some other after market ignition that ran the engine OK but I couldn't hand start it like I could with the original ignition the replacement made me use a starter that gives me an unreliable feeling. That makes flying not fun when you have something in the back of your mind like the engine may quite at any time. I'm hoping that someone can help me to clear these thoughts of an unreliable engine or where I can get a good price on an original ignition.

Thanks Soinks

Another option might be Milton at:

Pretty knowledgeable guy, you could address any concerns you might have with him?

I think you need to be very specific about what you tried that did not work. How you set it up or who set it up for you. Ignitions can make or brake an engine, but, just as imprtant is the setup. Setup maybe all you need right now.

C&H invented the RC electronic ignition that brought us reliablity. BCCHI has commented on many threads here and is easily the top resident expert. He is however out of the game and I think one of the main reasons is people who do not place value on what a vendor has for sale. To me 149 $ for your DA sounds just fine. Pay it and move on.

If not I have replaced 4 ignitions in the last 10 years on various engines that were sold with crappy OE ignitions. All were hall effect sensor type and all were replaced with RCxels. With no problems so far. Most of them I bought from Hobbyking marketed as replacement units for the FTL engines they sell. These were all for 14mm plugs as that was what the engines in question used. I also stoled a RCxel 10mm unit for the Zenoah G20ei replacement from a CRRC pro that I have yet to put into service. All those units do work well.

I have a DA 50 that runs great. If its ignition dies I would probably replace it with one of Milton"s units ( I like the hall sensor bracket he has made). I believe the hall effect units are superior for starting ( this is just my opinion ).

Yup. They have an adapter so you don't have to re-time it either.

Rcextremepower is the way to go. He knows his stuff and sells great products. I have bought many ignitions from him and they work great. He also is happy to help with issues. All around a great guy.

What does replacing a module have to do W/timing?

The DA and RXExcel have a different timing setup. If you replace the DA with a generic ignition you have to either drill and tap and relocate the sensor so the magnet hits it at 28 degrees, or bolt on the one that Milton sells that offsets it using the existing holes
