Switch left on for months; hurt ignition??
Hi guys,
I moved a few months ago, and in so doing, the ignition switch on my 50cc Extra apparently got bumped on and I didn't notice. Think it hurt my RCEXL ignition system to be on until the battery died??
Are ya around Bill?
Thanks,
AV8TOR

If your ign is tied into an electronic kill switch, then no. The kill switch does not provide power to the ign when the Rx is not on. If nothing is in between I have no idea.

Well, I left a gasser in the top of a very large tree for a week or so, until a big storm blew it down? As it was running when it went in, that meant the switches were on long enough to completely deplete a nearly fully charged genuine A123 battery. Ignition components checked out fine. It was the battery that I had the trouble with. It was too low to take a charge, throwing incorrect voltage errors, until I thought to put another identical battery in parallel with it. That was the trick. That started a charge, which I kept down to 1 amp to keep everything cool. Testing/cycling show it's back to just shy of where it was originally.

Well, it has spark. And the battery even looks like it is going to cycle ok. Maybe I got lucky....
I just didn't know if the ignition would overheat and damage itself sitting switched on for hours and hours until the battery finally died. But maybe all the magic smoke stayed inside.
