love it but of lately needle valve issues are getting me frustrated. I broke it in as Saito recommended and it was running
great, although it always seemed to hesitate and stumble from idle to full throttle on takeoff so I decided to readjust
the needles.
In doing so now after takeoff I reduce power to 1/2 to 3/4 throttle good speed for a 1/5scale Zaroli T-6 and engine starts to
miss fire and stumble, runs great at full throttle and idle but acts up in mid range only !
My carb settings have been set at 5 - turns H needle 4-1/2 L needle. It has run ok for 14 flights and on the last flight it began so I landed immediately and reset needles H to 4-1/2 and L to 5- turns no help. Did not get better.
So I went to on line forums and to Saito instructions On line, Horizon instructions on line, spoke to rep from Horizon
and have become dizzy with all the conflicting needle valve settings.
From factory settings of H-3 turns out L -4-1/2 turns out to engine forums saying H- 6 turns out and L 5-1/2 turns out.

My problem may not be related to carb needle settings but in my quest for a good setting for this engine I can't believe
that range of settings can be suitable ! Any thoughts or suggestions.
I have been an r-c flyer since 1978 I consider myself an advanced flyer and builder own G62's G38's DA85's and have flown In the past with Saito 91 four cycle engines all with no problems. While this 90cc engine has flown my T-6 without incident I can't seem to get a reliable transition.
Any help with reliable carb settings other than the mentioned setting ranging From H -,3 turns to H - 6 turns might help.
I am relying on what has been a good reliable carb setting. And why such a wide setting range from other sources.

Thanks Joe
I have 6 gallons through mine and I run the hell our of it. My carb is set at 4.5 on bottom and 4 on top. Runs great. I agree you might check your plugs I replaced mine after the ground run in. I reset my valves at the end of every 2 gallons. I would suggest sending it in.

hi tfarmer

can you please specify what type of fuel mix are you using. I was running 15:1 ratio with redline oil. And today when I put in a 24x 12 prop my engine was running too rich spitting oil like crazy. And when I leaned out the h 21/2 turns same rpm 4500

ppl suggested I use 40:1 fuel to oil mix.

40:1 if you want to destroy your engine :-)
Use 20:1 as the manual states.

Yes 40:1 will kill your engine. I read all the replies to my problem listened to what was suggested and am enjoying my Saito.
20:1 redline oil mix. Low end 4 1/2. High end 5 1/4 needle settings. Idle rpm 1900. Full throttle. About 6000 to 6500
ststic rpm. Slight oil spit on number 3 cylinder. It runs a little rich on that cylinder not sure why I guess it's just the nature
of that cylinder. GREAT ENGINE.

i have run only 15:1 mix in my engine and used only the klotz KL200 premix.my low is right around 4 1/2 but i think my high is more closer to 6 turns. im not going to touch it though as it is running great. i put this video up @ the TF corsair mods thread and it cant hurt to put it here as well. i am sooo much liking this engine and the corsair! i would really like to try it with the Phoenix Waco as well.

Notice that for the most recent version (SAIEG60R3) Horizon has changed recommended fuel/oil ratio from 15:1 - 20:1 to 16:1 - 20:1

I'm running closer to 17-18:1. I have a hint of smoke while running and will turn 22x10 to 6800 on the ground.

Default Saito FG84R3

I cannot get my Saito to run right. Throttle is wide opened and I can only get up to high 3000rpm. Lean in and lean out and still it does not get to 6000 rpm. When I broke the engine on a bench it was running fine at high and low rpm. Initially, I thought it was because I had the fuel tube too long inside the motor box and the carb pump could not pull the gas. So I shortened the tube and it kinked so no fuel to the engine. So I decided to run the part of he fuel lines outside the box so it will not kink. Yet it still cannot reach optimal high rpm. What am I doing wrong? Please help. Thanks.

Check your valve adjustment. That’s where I always start when this scuba doo mystery stuff happens to a saito.

I feel your pain man. I would start going through the fuel system starting at the tank forward. I have seen those filters have stuff left in them from the factory. I use the same ones. That's really all you have left to look at if your hitting on all 3. Could you please post a video of the motor running on the plane?

Also see if your ignition battery is good, or the switch and wires are able to supply the current needed.

Default I couldn't help it!

This is the most I've spent on an engine ever but couldn't help myself after watching the engines perform at Wenatchee NW Scale championships. I haven't run it in yet but am concerned that the person in this thread disassembled his new engine to discover a lack of oiling from factory. How does one get oil into the crankcase to lubricate all parts before startup?
