Default BME110 + CA330 = Perfection!!

I just finished flight testing my latest project, a 40% Composite-ARF 330sx powered by a BME110 Xtreme. Total weight of the plane (dry) is a mere 28 lbs 12 ounces. Radio gear included 6 5945 hiTec digitals and 2 5735's for rudder, and a single 645 for throttle, using 3 2150 NiMH packs and JR receiver.

The engine uses dual "LL" Pefa canisters and very short KS 25mm header tubes. It spins the Mejzlik 28-12 test prop at 7000-7050 rpm, a Biela 28-10 at 6400-6450, and a Menz-s 28-10 at 6500 rpm. All three props dB'd at under 94 dB's at 250 feet, In accordance with IMAC guidelines.

Hows it fly with this engine .. in a word. . GREAT. Take off in 5 feet, out of sight vertical at about 5/8-3/4 throttle, TR'in at 1/3-1/2 throttle and instantaneous throttle response and linear throttle curve. The plane flies MUCH lighter on the controls than the usual 38-40 lbs planes of this size, overrotations are almostnon-existent, and the engien has tons of leftover power to pull theplane out of almost any problem you can get into. Knife-edge loops are very easy, it will do climbing flat spins by jsut holdign the rudder over and manipulating throttle and elevator, and landings are at less than 10mph with a roll out of about 10 feet.

Of note. . .NO lead is in the plane, the batteries for the receiver are on CG, the ignition battery is on the back of the motor box, rudder servos are on CG, and only the throttle servo is ahead of CG. One servo per elevator in the tail is used, along with a small sized haigh tailwheel.

I think that THIS proves several things. . . .

First. . you CAN balance a plane, even a 40%, with a lightweight engine on the nose and NOT use lead.

Second, the BME Xtreme 110 has enough power to fly this plane as well as a 150-powered model.

Third, though people complain about 'wind problems" with super light models, none were experienced during flights, in winds as high as 20 mph.

Fourth, the power of the BME Extreme110 is now a proven commodity, easily dragging a 40% plane aroudn the sky, and going vertical from takeoff or a hover, with all the ability of a 150 power plane.

The plane weighs 28.5 lbs. . . no other engine would have allowed this level of performance AND weight savings, except the BME110.

Enjoy the pics. I'll add more if people want them.
