RE: ZDZ 80 ON TUNED PIPES
Ok guys the Sat test results are in. Keep in mind that I'm not trying to turn for all out RPM on a lightly loaded prop, but rather a heavy loaded prop and a quiet set up. We tried the short header set up as was advised and in all cases it lost on a average of 200 RPM. I also found out that the JMB can is at best a large heavy muffler that costs RPM, but it is quiet. The 1080 pipe out performed everything that we tried and the KS 89 came in second. We also tried a number of different props and were suprised at the result, the MSC 26x10 is a real piece of lumber to turn, but it sure moved a lot of air, best we could do was 5700 on the 1080 at 13 1/4 in it will be interesting to see it in the air. 26x10 babmula turned as before at 6420 the mens S 27x10 turned the same, I tried a 28x10 mens S and it really made the 80 work 5500 was the best on the 1080, it would only turn 4900 on the JMB can. The KS89 was on average 200 RPM behind the 1080 on everything we tried. Also we have tried some pits style mufflers and they are just that mufflers. I think that we have to understand that the ZDZ engines are PIPE TIMED and to get any where near there potential they need a tuned pipe of some kind.
Paul to answer your questions sorry I don't have a digital camera so have know pics. I flew my 80 single on a highly modified giant sweet n low ugly stick for most of the summer it weighed in at 21 lbs and had a KS 89 can it has unlimited performance and I can fly the full IMAC sequence with it. I'm in the process of building a GP 330l and have it all framed up I have the 1080 tuned pipe in side the plane so I can hardly wait until the snow goes. As always just my .02

What is the proper diameter header should be used for a KS 89 can? KS website has 28mm dia. (exterior). I heard that RCShowcase header has a smaller diamter. Is this true? Prop will be a Menz S 26x10
thanks,
Smokey
