Default BME 50 help

I have a BME 50 with a J&A Pitts muffler and have a couple of questions:

1. One of the cooling fins for the engine sits against the muffler where the two pipes come out of the main muffler barrel. Should I take a dremel to the fin to eliminate any vibration troubles?

2. The muffler has a little bracket that is supposed to be bent and attached to something? What should I attach it to? Should I tap the motor mount or firewall?

Thanks in advance for your help!

SAILOR, your first issue is most likely from the manufacturing of the muffler. You are going to have vibration issues there.....I would try to trade for another one with whoever you bought it from.

Second issue, It has been a while since I had my BME 50, but if I remember correctly, I had the bracket mounted to the engine with of the engine bolts...maybe someone can clarify this....

Sailor,

Mine bolted into a threaded hole on the back of the engine. Did not have to do any modifiying. Make sure everything fits well or these mufflers are known to crack. Mine came with two washers to use at the connection to the muffler, but no instructins where they go. Emails to JA went unanswered. I just used them and the bracket and made sure there was no induced tension or stress on the muffler.
