Default Brison 5.8 HELP!!!

Hi All, I have a Brison 5.8 in a Nosen jug, which I flew on Sat. Flew great for a flight...then after refueling and trying to start for the second flight, she wouldn't go. The engine would fire and burn off the prime and then stop. Last night I checked the
tanks/clunks and replaced all of the fuel tubing...today, same thing. Fire, burn off the prime and stop. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Rob / Pickupsticks

Check your screen in the carb, it could be clogged worth a try... Vic G

Default Brison 5.8 HELP!!!

When you close the choke and flip the prop, does it pull fuel into the carb? I assume that it does because you said it burns off the prime. Have you choked it and left the choke about half way and tried to start it? It may be possible that the pump in the carb is not working. While you have the side off where the screen is, check to see that the little flapper valves (pump valves) are seating over the little holes. Usually the Walbro SDC 80 doesn't give much trouble unless the screen is dirty. Is this a new engine or has it been sitting around a long time?

Default Brison 5.8 HELP!!!

There is either a plugged up passageway from the cylinder pulse hole to the carb or there is a leak in the same passageway..The carb will draw fuel from the choke but will not pump any more if the pulse is blocked or lelaking.....Look for silicone sealer in the pulse hole.....

Default How's the engine?

I'm looking at getting one of these engines...
How is the engine (other than the current problem)
Is it smooth? (vibration & transition?)

Any comments will be welcome....

I'm going to put it in a 33% Great Planes Extra...

Default Brison 5.8

Eric, This is the first time I've ever had any problems with it. It has always been reliable and super easy to start...great transition...and more than enough power to haul my 42 lb. P-47 around scale-like at 1/2 throttle. Vibration isn't bad at all.
In all, I think it is a great engine. Tomorrow, I'm going to pull the plate off of the carb and see if I can find this "screen" that could be causing my trouble...I've been lucky so far, I've never had a problem that required more than set screw adjustments!
Good luck and happy flying,
Rob / Pickupsticks

Erik, I'm really crazy about my Brison 5.8 in my 36# Ziroli Corsair. It has a real solid air frame and I don't find the vibration objectionable at all. The transition is excellent as is the starting. I'm running a Menz standard 26 x 10. It should work fine in your 33% Great Planes Extra although you might notice vibration more because of the lighter air frame. It's really good in "Big Iron".

Default Thanks for the info...

Bib Bird & Pickupsticks....

Thanks for the info. The big brown rolling hobby shop should be making a delivery today or tomorrow with the engine, and I'll bolt it to the front of the tractor and give it a flip or two to check it out...
I would have to say that it sounds like I should take it easy with the thing as your planes both have a few pounds on mine...

I also came across a deal on a 100cc twin (modified bme) so I'm gonna have to choose which one I use...

I guess it's better to have a choice of two great engines, than none at all... Maybe I'll just get another plane, yeah that should do it! (straight to divorce court, do not pass go)

Thanks for the positive info.

Erik
