Default Stripped plug hole: Time-Sert experienced?

I'm looking for someone who has some hands-on experience with Time-Sert screw thread inserts.

I've gone and stripped the plug hole on my ZDZ-80RV and would like any words of wisdom you have to offer as to using this system.

Thanks

Pull the jug and take it to a Motorcycle or chainsaw shop that has a kit to install them. The kit is not cost effective to purchase for the occasional user.

typical cost here - is about $20.00
be sure to tell em it is for a tapered seat plug.
jug removal and replacement is quite easy - get a new gasket for the jug flange - or make one from thin gasket material - Checker carries it.
wipe the surfaces with some good silicone gasket compound on assembly.

You certainly will want to have a pro do this for you for many reasons. One of the big reasons is if you do not get the insert in properly, you may create an air leak that will cause your engine to run lean. This can and will over time do some heavy duty damage to your piston.

You also want to be very careful with the jug gasket. The same applies regarding the air leak, only it is more related to a primary compression leak. You also want to match the thickness of the old gasket to the new gasket material if you are making your own. Variation in the gasket material will change your port timing. It only takes a little difference to change the way the engine runs.

Good luck!

Yes - I guess I am so used to doing my own stuff I forget that others may ignore some of the basics.
