From: Toledo, OH,
I searched, and didn't come up with the answers I wanted.
What is the best gas engine for someone switching from glow to gas? I am thinking of something in the 50cc size. Possibly a DA, 3W, Brison? Any others that are recomended? I know there are others, but these seem to be the most popular. I will be putting the engine on a scratch build Edge 540, and I do tend to build light. Is there anything I need to look out for in these engines or any other ones that get recomended? My local hobby store doesn't stock any gas engines, so I will be mail ordering whatever I decide on.
Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve
Look at the Wildhare RC website in the download page, you will find out very good technical information for the first gas engine users.
http://www.wildharerc.com/Downloads/intro.html
Any of these 50CC DA, ZDZ, 3W, BME or Brison are powerful, light and perfect for 15-18lbs and aerobatic 3D planes give unlimited vertical. Use google to find the websites and you can compare prices to order the one that you need. A 50CC would cost around 495 to 550$US.
Which plan are you using to build the Edge 540? I am very interrested to sratch built one in the 28% or 29% range and 80 to 84 inches span. The only one Edge plan that i have found is from DL Design...

From: Toledo, OH,
After refining my search more, I have found the information I was looking for.
Thanks for the link to wildhare's website.
I plan on using a modified version of the DL design Edge. I want to strech the wingspan by 1 bay on each wing half, but strech it at the root not the tip, and strech the fuse a couple inches.
There is a website that took the DL Edge and built it up as a stick built plane, but I don't remember the link to the website. I plan on doing something similar.
Is there a place to look that tells if an engine is magneto or electronic ignition?
Thanks

All engines in my previous post have electronic ignition. The only engine that i know with magneto is the Zenoah. The heavy wheel required for the magneto give an heavier motor than electronic ignition. There is a guy here (RCIGN) on RCU who can convert any Zenoah to an electronic ignition. Ithink a converted Zenoah G62, 62CC would be to much heavy for your Edge. The DA-50 is very light and the Brison is less expensive. If you can keep the flying weight under 13 to 15 lbs, a ZDZ40 or any good 40CC would work fine.
Let me know if you can remember that website showing the stick fuse. It should be lighter than plywood. Are the wings sheeted or you will build balsa/spruce/spar wing?
