saito 180 fuel consumption
Can any one please let me know how many ounces the saito 180 uses per minute.... My buddy has a 120 skyward and he wants to fly it for 20 minutes at a time... He wants the four stroke 180 engine and is wondering how big of a tank he should use...
Thanks...
Thanks...

At full throttle, a ton. But you don't plan on flying it around at full throttle do you?
I have a Saito 150 in my quarter scale CAP with a 16 oz. tank. I fly it around for eight or nine minutes and land with half a tank left over. Why? Because I only use full throttle for vertical. Most of the time I am at half-throttle or less. I even take off with half-throttle.
If you have to fly around at full throttle with a Saito 180 powered airplane you are underpowering it. Put a bigger engine on it. You don't fly a full scale airplane around all the time at full throttle do you?
I use less fuel in a nine minute flight with my Saito 150 than most guys do flying a 60 or 90 around at full throttle for the same amount of time. Flown properly a Saito 180 gets very acceptable fuel economy.

dustflyer, Thanks for the info.. I posted that on rvd's computer..
The plane it's going in is a 120 size skyward.. Top wing trainner like plane... It won't be running at full throttle.. about half is good.. all he wants is a big motor (besides gas) that is ok on fuel and has the power when He puts it inverted 10 feet off the ground and hands me the controls to correct it.. (HEHE) Yes he's still learning to fly.. he allready put one in the ground (120 skyward with a g23) Let's just say there's nothing left... but this one has the super tigre 3000 and he doesn't like the fact that the engine goes through fuel as fast as I go through girlfriends... It's not good enough for him... So, He wants a dependable engine and a good runner.. I told him the saito 180 and by what you told me so far that's the motor to get.. What prop are you using and what rpm are you getting... I wonder if the 250 is the one to get.. the 180 is only 50 dollars more..?????????

saito 180 fuel consumption
Kewl around 1 ounce a minute.. That's what I need..
One question.. Why would poeple get the 150 instead of the 180 if it's only 50 dollars more.????
What is the power difference..? that much?
But as for the fuel thing.. I'm sold on the SAITO.. YS is to much..
Saito 150 or 180 .... wich one do I buy... HHMMMMMM...
the plane calls for a 90 to 108 2c
or a 120 four stroke..
Now before you say the 120 size saito, This plane weight around 15 to 17 pounds and is a turd in the air.. The g23 wasn't enough.. Well barely.. So what should I install in her...
It has a 16 ounce tank now and If I could get 12 to 13 minutes of flight time that would be great.... Thanks guys...
I'm being paid for this that's why I need the info on the four strokes.. I run all big super tigre like this one in my 90 super sportster
I'd like to try the 180 in her... I think I'm turning four stroke now guys. (grin)

In theory,
Without using any nitro and in standard atmosphere (15 deg C and 101.3 kPa), with mixture ratio of 6.5 for methanol *and* assuming around 10000 rpm for full throttle,
You should be seeing something like 1.2 oz/min. For 20 mins at full throttle, tank size of 24 oz should do it. Using nitro requires richer mixtures and will use fuel faster. On those hot days, fuel comsumption might be a tad better, allowing some nitro to be used as well to restore power.

Thanks wells...
Would the engine run on methanol and castol only????? I run a mix of 2 quarts to 5 gallons of methanol If I just wanna cruise around with my 3250's super tigres.. If I want more rmp I had more stuff but that mixs works fine for my big guys..
What would the performance be like.?
Without nitro I lose about 1500 rpm on my 3250..
Would that be the same for the saito..
It still would be ok cuz I mix 5.5 gallons for 18 dollars.. o you can't beat that..

I'm guessing,
but I would think that the engine would be designed to run without nitro, but it can't hurt any if you use 10% on those hot summer days. In doing so, you're restoring power back to 'standard'. On the other hand, I would also guess that engine parts have some kind of extra strength built into the components, maybe 50%? Saito, on their website actually recommends 30% nitro heli-fuel.
But, you're also looking at a 30% increase in fuel consumption there too! Could be costly!

There are spec sheets for each Saito engine on the Horizon website.and these include fuel consumption figures.....Big ST engines were designed especially for no nitro, low oil fuel once they were broken in,but I Dont think you would like the performance of any four stroke without nitro

Wow, this is good info. I've been hearing the opposite at the field. Someone said the 180 used twice as much as the 150. Bummed me up man! But what I'm hearing hear is about right for a Bob Holman corsair I have (75" ws). Been trying to put a gasser in it but there just isnt enough space. So I'm leaning towards saito 180. This is promising.
