Default What engine is this

I bought a plane with this engine in it but don't know what it is. I was told it was a 3w engine

On the cylinder is marked 1D 3+

12110011 927

Does anyone know what make and size this engine is?

Thanks

Most 3W engines don't have numbers like that..Looks like the casting numbers on a Sachs 5.2....Could be an early 3W 60...

There is also a number stamped on the crank case where the cylinder bolts to the crankcase ( 026)

What is the formula to figure out the displacement of an engine

If the carb on the engine is original and is a Walbro it can be cross referenced to the manufacturer...

I don't have a digital camera so no picture. The carb is a Tillotson made in the USA. The carb is mounted on one side of the engine and the exhaust is on the other and it has a prop hub like the 3w. I don't think it is a converted engine as the crank does not come out the back of the engine.

All 3W engines have cast cases...Machined cases are conversions, some with the back of the crank cut off flush with the rear bearing and made from chainsaw parts....Or in the case of DA engines, CNC machined to their specs....
