Default Which muffler for DA-50?

I will FINALLY be getting around to ordering my DA-50 in about two weeks. Since there are a lot of them out there I would like opinions on which muffler to get for it.

It is going into a GP patty wagstaff, and I won't be modifying it to accomodate cannisters. I guess the choice is between a Bisson and a Slimline pitts. So, does either of these perform better on the engine as far as allowing better output? Is one quieter than the other?

I don't have an answer to your question, but I have another related question. I just got a Bisson Pitts style muffler for my DA 50 and noticed the ends of the exhaust pipes are rolled inward reducing the exit area of the tube. Is this good? Should I leave it like that or open up the exhaust pipes?

Open it up. This cuts the engine down a couple hundred RPM's. Like 200 I am told. They were supposed to have fixed this by stoping rolling the pipes. Yes cutting them shorter fixes the problem. Yours must be an older model.

The only way to get more power is to go with Canisters. If the plane were mine I wouldn't put a exaust diverter on it. They are simply annoying and make the plane look ugly. The canister is really the better setup...especially for the DA 50 in an aerobatic airplane. If you must do this though there are tweo mufflers that DA sells and both run equally well. As has been stated there have been changes made to the mufflers since they originally came out. You really ned to contact Desert Aircraft concerning which one is best for application though. Nobody will be able to give you info like Desert can. After all, that's what they do every day. [8D]

I've had the standard muffler on mine and now I have the Slimline pitts muffler on it. I get a little more rpm out of the motor with the slimline. But I'm also partial to slimline's mufflers. They are of superb construction and stylish. I have them on just about every engine that has required a pitts. 2 strokes, 4 strokes, gas ...you name it. DA sells the Slimlines!

I got the slimline pitts and love the way it performs. Sounds great and has the engine muffler combo has almost 10 gallons of gasoline through it. I'm glad I got it but wish it did not weight 10 ounces. I'd love a 4 oz alternative. I may get the tune pipe setup for a project coming up.

OK, everyone seems to be saying slimline. Does anyone have the bisson? I would really like to hear any performance comparisons between the two...if anyone has any...
