I just bought a used 3w60K. I have no experience with 3w's at all and the only other gas eng. i've had is a DA-50. My problem is midrange. Flying at half throttle is troubling. It burbles quite a bit. Also in knife edge and inverted. Below or above half throttle it is much cleaner and the transition from idle to wide open is great. Is this a common problem and is there anything i can do to make it better? Will leaning it out do anything or is this more of a problem that relates to having a side mount carb. BTW the carb is brand new from aircraft international. The motor was just serviced a few months ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

I have been running a 3w-60k for 5 years now and it is a great engine .
getting it tweeked to run good in the mid range was a challenge
I installed the recommended diaghram vent mods. and also installed a velocity stack and this helped alot.
The remainder of the problem was cured by using amsoil 100:1 oil mix and fine tuning of the carb ..
you may have to run it a little leaner on top end than usual and tune out the mid range gurgle /poping with the low needle . this will cause the
engine to hesitate slightly untill warmed up ,but once warm the throttle response will return to normal and the mid and top end will be clean.
i have been running a 22/12 bolly c/f prop at about 7000 rpms
menz 22/10 7200
3w 22/10 7100
about 15 gals of fuel through it so far, with no problems

Top end doesn't seem to be a problem. I'm spinning close to 7500 rpm with a mejzlik 22-10. I have ordered a beila 24-8 and that should be about the perfect prop for it. I am running polaris full synthetic racing oil at 70:1. Everyone in my area is out of amsoil right now. I doubt that would have a big effect on the midrange anyway. I am going to try to tune it out thru the carb first, but i'm sure I'll have to end up getting the intake from 3w. I'm just alittle frustrated. I don't understand why you have to make mods to an engine that should just run the way it comes from 3w. Thanks guys keep the comments coming I'm sure there aren't too many of these engines out there, if this is how they all are.

the low end needle controls throttle till over half open the burrble is because the low end is still too rich.just turn it in about 1/16 of a turn till it just stops the burbble and doesn't hesitate when opened up wide open, sounds like you have the top end just about right

I am having same problem with a new FOX 3.2 i wil try and lean low end up as suggested i did that once today but it would hestitate until warmed up so i thought it was to lean so i richen it up some. I noticed that after warmed up the low end was fine. Thanks Bruce going to mix some fresh Amoil 2000 up 64/1 to i am using lawn boy right now for break end 40/1 i think it is to rich. I looked at the plug and it wasnt to bad but was not the nice tannish color it was dark .
