Default RCS 1.80...ANYONE USING THIS ENGINE

Just wanted to know if anyone is using this engine (the rear intake version) and how do you like it? What props and what weight aircraft are you flying them in? I'm currently working on a hanger 9 cessna which i'm planning to install this engine. My RCS 44 twin runs excellent in my Patty wagstaff, so onto this smaller gasser.

Thanks,

Gunny

I have one. It's on the Great Planes Gene Soucy Extra 300. I'm using a Mejzlik 22-8 prop turning about 7300 RPM. Airplane weighs over 14 pounds. It has good vertical, but the airplane is very slow. I'm thinking of trying an 18-10. The engine runs just fine. I'd just like a little more power.

Are you sure you are getting 7300 RPM with a 22x8 prop on an RCS 1.80??
Man the DA 50 isn't getting much higher RPM's then that with a 22x8 prop.
And you think you need more power then that on a 14 lbs plane?

22 X 8 and 7200 RPM on an RCS 1.80? That sounds suspect to me. I run an 18 X 10 Zinger and get 7100-7200. I only have 1.5 gallons through this motor though. Maybe the hollow carbon fiber prop really makes that much difference but I doubt it. I plan on trying a Carbon 20 X 8 soon.

Hi Gunny,
I have the 1.8 in a 80in. Yak 55 weighing about 13lbs.
Menz 20x8 at 7300 and flys very well.

If the 1.80 is like the 1.40 and the 44B2 the head is very thin at the spark plug. My 44b2 actually blew the spark plug right out of the head while it was running. I think it was due to vibration and the heavy RFI hood that has to be firmly attached to the spark plug. For sure you would not want to soft mount one of these engines.

OK. I goofed on the prop. It's a 20-8 Mezlik. The tach works right. 7300 RPM.

Sorry,
Fred
