Default 100cc engine choices

i'm ordering a 35% carden extra built by J&M model craftsmen. i'm looking for some help with the engine combo. the choices are as follows:

da 100 with stock mufflers
da 100 with cans (don't know which)
3w 106 with stock mufflers
3w 106 with cans (don't know which)

i fly most imac type flying with some 3d. hoping to increase my 3d ability with this plane.
servos will be 2 jr 8611's per aileron, 1 jr 8611 per elevator, 2 jr 8611's on rudder.

i'm worried that if i go with cans i'll add too much weight and make the plane fly poorly. but yet since i fly imac i have to make sure i keep it quiet too.

i'm also still undecided on whether to go with a jr 10x or a futaba 9z. im flying a futaba 9c now, but that won't do the mixing i want for the new plane.

does anyone have this plane with one of these setups?? i'd really like to hear from someone who's got the setup flying!!

thanks for all the help everyone!!

Tony I like my 9z. The 10x is good also, but the 9z offers a little more flexability. I do not own a 9c but I can't imagine that you would not be able to get the mixing you want.

As for the engines both would be fine. I chose a BME 110 on a comp-arf for weight, so there is another option. It is about 2 lbs. lighter and runs well. All are good running engines if you know what you are doing. Some are more forgiving to the novice.
You will hear lots of opinions but I don't think the wt. of the cans will cause much of a problem. Lighter is better though.

I do not own your plane, but know people are satisfied with them. As for those servos no one can complain about them.

Tony.New this year with 30 flights on it.
Carden 35% Extra 330s
JR 10x- 955S receiver
ZDZ 100 NG with KS tuned cannisters
2-8611s per aileron
1-8611 per elevator
2-8611s in a SWB tray and SWB control horn in rudder
3-JR Matchboxes-Not so sure,but I think I only needed the 1 for the Rudder.But I have 1 on each AIL. also.
Duralite Powerbox with Lithium Ions
Duralite Lithium with regulater for ignition.
I absolutely love this plane and the setup.I originally had to put 1 LB of lead on the firewall and moved the batteries as far forward as possible to make it balance as per plans.I have since removed the lead and am going to move the batteries back 1 at a time.It weighs between 28 and 29 LBS.It will go vertical forever but not like a rocket. The crispness of the controls on this plane are incredible.Build it as you have planned. As for engines,I'm extremely happy with my setup.I haven't tuned the system properly yet so performance may get a little better. If I had to do it again I think I would opt for the BME 110 Extreme.Although any of the 100 cc will be just fine.I went with the cannisters for the clean cowl area and the sound. You can't see where they exit.I wouldn't trade the setup for anything else.My 2 cents worth. You will enjoy it.

jack, did you have any trouble getting the canisters to fit in the fuselage??
i've heard the canister install was somewhere between tight and not possible cause the fuse was too narrow.

thanks,
tony

Tony this is largest plane I've had.I've had 2 33%s and 2 30%s and it's by far a lighter feeling aircraft than any of them.It does not feel heavy.Very responsive and stops and soon as you release the controls. It will do 3 point landings at a crawl without a hint of stalling. It is truly a fantastic flying plane.I haven't seen or flown a composite plane. They claim to be a couple LBS lighter but you won't be dissapointed with this.As far as cannisters, there is all kinds of room and I have 2 KS 70cc in mine with no problems with room. They sound absolutely awesome when you fly by yourself and roll.
P.S. I'm not a 3 D flyer yet but this plane will knife edge straight as the sky is long with very little rudder.

You cannot go wrong with any set up you get from Jim Short!!! I recently got one from those guys, and WHAT A DREAM!!!! I did the covering on it and installed everything in it in about 80 hours!!

As far as weight considerations, I don't even consider the Carden's being heavy!!!! Who cares what the actual weight of the plane is!!! I dont!!!! Just as long as it flies LIGHT!!! I'll tell you this........ My 35% 330S probably weighs 30#, but gauranteed it flies like it weighs 20!!!! If you want to see pics of it, please feel free to email me, or I'll post them here!!!

PS- putting cans in the Extra, SIMPLE!!!! Very easy!!!

Enjoy!!!

I have a BME on a 1/3 scale cap.
It shakes a little but has excellent power and is very quiet.
