Default Little Toot Bipe - what engine ?

This is for the Grand Pooh-Bah ........ but other mere mortals may join in too ......... please !
Tommy "Son of Toot" Meyer has a 1/3 scale plan of the Toot. What selection of engines would be right for it ? A neat opposed twin would be cool too. Thanks Guys. MalcolmL

MalcolmL, as I recall Tommy used a Sachs (may have been A&M) 4.2 in his. Why not go first class and put one of the new light weight 100 cc twins in it? At 1/3 scale, it's pretty big.

Mere mortal,
Ken

Default Little Toot

Thanks Homepylon (Brad ?) - more details please of Mammoth Plans - email, website, FAX. And what does it weigh ?
Thanks Ken - this is early doors for this project. At 1/3 scale, it would have a 76 inch ws. Which "lightweight 100 CC twins" did you have in mind ?

Default Little Toot Bipe - what engine ?

Hi Malcom: The plans I'm working from were drawn in 1988 by Bob Morse. They're currently available from Bob Holman. Wingspan is 85" and stated weight on the plans is 32 lbs. The engine shown is a 3.7 Sachs.

I've got both wings framed up and am currently working on the stab. So far I've enjoyed working from these plans. Very conventional model construction and everything seems to fit. Ailerons are bottom wing only (they're huge) and feature scale Friese type hinges. Neat! The IMAA website has a review of these plans.

I agree with Big Bird about power requirments. This is a big model and will need horsepower to perform. The cheek cowls are ideal for a twin cylinder.

The full scale Little Toot web site (www.littletootbiplane.com)
has a collection of images to get you motivated.

Good luck

Default Little Toot - engine for ....

Thanks, Guys, for your input - much appreciated.

Homepylon - yes, I've already seen Tommy Meyer's website pics - they're inspiring !

Big Bird - you referred to "the new lightweight 100 cc twins". Which one/s did you have in mind ?

Thanks again. MalcolmL

Brad, I read the review of the Bob Morse plans and they have a 78.9" wing span. Are these the same plans that Bob Holman sells that you refered to as 85" wing span?

The review:

Hi Ken: Yep, they're the same as far as I know. The data box on the plan even lists the span at 78.9, but they're really 85".

I suspect that they've been enlarged at some point. It's OK with me. Bigger flies better <g>

Take care
