I have a ZDZ 40 that runs great and I am seeing a lot of planes out on the market that are designed for a DA 50. Comparing the specs between the two it looks like the DA has just a little more horse power than the ZDZ 40. .03 to be exact. It doesn't look to me like there is that much difference between the two but I know from experience that what looks like a little right now translates into a lot out at the field. Could any one help me with this?
Thanks.
Thanks.

HP ratings supplied by the manufacturer mean absolutely zip.
The DA 50 should turn a 22-10 in the 7000-7500RPM range. Maybe even a 24-8 after broken in.
ZDZ 40 is a totally different engine.
Ya can't compare a 40cc engine to a 50cc engine-- doesn't matter who makes them.
I'm betting that ZDZ 40 turns a 20-10. Big difference between a 20-10 and a 22-10.

Hey Mr. Spinner.. i have both (and had them both in the same plane). i built the ohio 63" Ultimate (see my avitar at left). i first put the ZDZ40 in it. 40 turns a 20X10. (i don't really know the rpms). also tried it with 8" pitch props. If would hover at full throttle, but not climb out of a hover (at least not noticably). plane is about 17lbs.
i got the DA 50 and mounted it. 1st thing - the plane's CG moved way forward. I had to move the 2 battery packs about 8-10 inches back to counter. 50 turns a 22X10. it will definitly accellerate up out of a hover.
both are great engines. if you look at something designed for a 50 and take all steps to lighten it and move weight forward so you aren't tailheavy and have to add weight.....AND if you aren't looking for ballistic verticle, i think you can do what you are suggesting....

I can give a quick comparasion between a ZDZ 40 and the ZDZ 50 NG since I have both. the 40 will turn a menz 22-8 6300 rpm static, the 50 turns the same prop 7200 static, both engines have pitts style mufflers and were run on the same fuel mix. You should see at least the same difference with the DA.

You guys gave me the exact info that I was looking for...thank you!!! Since I like my planes to fly as fast up as they do straight I would be going with a 50cc instead of trying to do the job with the 40cc.
