Hi!
This will be my first gas engine and I have a few questions which have probably been asked before but I want to hear fresh opinions.
I'm looking for a 50cc engine that's very light, powerful, reliable and that vibrates less than the competitions engines.
The engine will be going in a 80" 3D plane and right now I'm looking into DA, ZDZ & BME but having had no experience with any of them, I have no idea which one should I choose.
BTW, please only comment if you have tried at least 2 of the 3 brands that I mentioned.
Thanks

All three engines you mention are fine products. It may help to know what kind of plane this is going in, as the DA and ZDZ are rear-carb'd engines, while the BME is a side carb'd engine. This will probably mean you will need to cut a hole in the firewall to accept the rear carbeurator.
That said, I will say I am biased towards the BME, since that is the only one of the three that I own. I can honestly say that my BME .50 has run like a top out-of-the box, and has plenty of power, unlimited vertical, on my H9 80" CAP 232.

Thanks for your reply!
Have you ever seen a DA or ZDZ run ? ... do they vibrate more than the BME does ?
This engine will be used in a custom Funtana 2.5m wingspan and my projected weight is 14lbs.
What prop are you using in your BME and what sort of rpm figures are you getting ?
Also, what muffler are you using in your BME ? ... if I get the BME50, I was thinking of using the standard muffler because of weight savnigs ... is there any advantage between the J&A vs the Standard exhaust ?
Thanks

I'm a ZDZ man, so I would say ZDZ, BUT--- my next engine will be a DA just to see if there as good as a ZDZ. I do own two other manufacturers gas engines and still like the ZDZ . You cannot beat the ZDZ for ease of cranking and reliability.
Just my $.02

This question has been posted hear many times, whish 50cc its the best? I do own a DA50 and a ZDZ and a 3W, and on my opinion the DA its probably the best 50cc but if you are willing to compromise a bit and go for a slight heavier engine I would suggest the ZDZ 60 with a supersonic muffler, kills the DA 50 by a long way and you don't have to go for canister to increase performance as some guys are doing.
