Default Easiest mounting 50cc for Patty Wagstaff?

I ordered a Great Planes Patty Wagstaff ARF which should arrive any day. I have been reading a ton of posts on RCU about this plane and engine selection. My head is spinning. I've been trying to make a decision about a 50cc gas engine. Lots of opinions about customer service, reliability, power, etc. I've sort of narrowed it down to three. Considering just these engines:

Brison 3.2

DA-50

ZDZ 50NG

Rather than asking which engine is the best for this plane, how 'bout this: Which of these three are the most easily mounted to the GP Patty Wagstaff? This is my first gas engine and my third plane and I want to find out as much as I can. Since I'm new at gas, maybe I should at least partly base my decision on ease of engine installation. Thanks very much.

Hello Wing-Ding

The Brison will be the easiest to mount in that airplane.. The DA and ZDZ are rear intake, making them a little more work to install. I am putting a DA 50 in that same aircraft.

Hope that helps.. if this is your first venture into the gas world any one of them will work well in this airframe.

Take Care,

Hi Wing-Ding

I have a Brison 3.2 on my Patty Wagstaff and it was really pretty easy to mount. Since the other two are rear intake it seems that they would be a little harder. I made standoffs using hardwood dowels and drilled a hole in the center. The standoffs were 1 5/8" long for your future reference. If you want the easiest, the BME 50 would probably be the easiest because it uses the same rail mount system that comes with the plane kit.

I went with the O'll sport gas engine RCS 44 twin. I'm very pleased with it.

BME 50 would be the easy install although it's not one of your choices! Here is a BME 44 pic. same as BME 50!

Although I can see that the Brison and the BME 50 would be the easiest, I finally decided to put on a DA-50-R. I think what many others were saying about customer service and reliability swayed my decision. Thanks much for the photos. I'll keep these for future reference as I would like to eventually try these different engines. Thanks very much for all of your suggestions.

Look at the Patty threads, you'll see that the DA-50 is no harder than the others. Mounts on standoffs.

Good choice. I've got a ZDZ-50 on mine..........Excellent running engine, easy to start.......great runnig with lots of power.........but my friend just got a Da-50, It swings a bigger prop at more rpm then the ZDZ. You haven't made a worng decision. You'll enjoy it.

I have mounted a DA50 with help from one of our member's (SilverEagle2) websites. This gentleman has an engine mounting template you can download. It worked perfectly-

http://www.se2skunkworks.com/photo.htm

Here is a thread regarding the standoffs for the DA50. I ordered mine from the website in the below post-

Hope this helps.

By the way, I have a Mejzlik 23X8 on my DA50 and the performance is fantastic. Good luck!
