I agree with Spectrum Hobbies, they'll sell whatever is laying around in the garage junkpile and call it Like new in box or New in the box...I've been burned several times now and the sellers will swear up and down, OH!!!! it wasn't like that when I sold it to ya' .....
B S, They know good and well it was messed up and that's why they dumped it, I guess I am too trusting of what other's say...Why don't seller's tell everything about the engine, I'll tell you why, nobody would buy it then or they wouldn't get their asking price...On the other hand, knowingly omitting information about their engine, seems to be the accepted norm out here nowadays.
I've bought numerous engines online that were good and now the percentile of bad motors is quickly surpassing the number of good one's. This bites, I like to buy online and the scam vultures are ruining it for me and alot of others as well.
I know this thread will bring out all of the "Tree Huggers" from out of the wood work, however, I stand firm on my position. I thought us RC'ers watched out for one another and didn't intentionally screw each other over.. This hobby is expensive enough, without getting ripped off by somebody else and their covered up mistakes. Essentially, I'm paying his way to continue flying with a new motor that he bought with my money and I'm stuck at home trying to figure out what's wrong with the engine I just bought from him.... What's wrong with this picture???
I give two thumbs up to Spectrum Hobbies for having the guts to initiate the initial thread of Glorified paper weights, because, that's what they usually are.. Final thought, Why would anybody sell a good engine or let's say, trade in a good car? Go figure !!!
Also, how come there's so many goofballs in this hobby, I thought they all went out for golfing. Moreover, I can't stop laughing at this issue..
Buy New and save yourself the headache, I sure am from now on, I don't like second helpings of anything, including well, you know....LOL

I disagree with both you and Spectrum Hobbies, our good guys list proves otherwise, there is a majority of sellers who's equipment are as stated, and many times are better. Of course in any group of sellers there are those who choose to rip off others, but the word gets around very quickly. If you are not sure about the condition of the item, call the person up selling and talk about the deal, call up another modeler in the same city and ask that they check out the big ticket item before making a final decision. There are laws that prohibit one from getting ripped off, and although it does take time do work. Many times a moderator can and will help before the purchase, or if in fact a deal goes bad we are here to help you in any way we can. A rip off artist will not last long at RCU, that is a promise.

Sorry, I do not have at the present time a plane that would work with that engine, although I am looking for a ZDZ40 if you happen to have one for sale. Good luck with selling your Zenoah GT 80.

I too have purchased a couple dozen used engines and many other items from ebay. Knock wood, I have not been burned yet - every item was as described. I do take time to check out the seller's feedback and exchange email with them prior to the purchase.
I have a significant investment in RC equipment, and sometimes need to change out for whatever reason. So I sell off engines/planes/radios I have no use for at the time to finance other purchases.
For example, I have 5 Saito twins (2 90s, a 130, a NIB 182 and a 270) sitting in my locker right now that I have no more use for - I will probably sell them to finance other purchases. But I expect to give as good as I get - I have checked over each engine (except the NIB 182), adjusted the valves and bench run them afterwards to ensure they all perform at the factory specs. I expect the purchaser to be happy with their purchase. I feel I have the right to expect the same from other hobbist when I purchase from them.
New is great - but when I can spend only 2/3's as much to get the same thing, then my pocketbook is ahead of the game.

I've bought several used gas engines on the internet and never once have I been disappointed. Never once have I had a seller misrepresent the engine he's selling.
I believe that you do unto others as you would like them treat you.
Having said that, those that are worried perhaps are engaged in the very practice that worries them so, eh????

Hi Taildrager,
Did you ever get that ZDZ40? My friend bought one, and it spits up gas (leaks out of the carb at idle) and a few other people I have talked to have the same problem of gas spitting out, just want to know if you got one, and if it does the same.

ZDZ's will spit out gas. There are two solutions. The first is to put on a velocity stack to improve air flow into the carb. The second is to install an airfilter which not only improves air flow but the gas gets caught on the mesh of the filter if it gets that far and is sucked back in. (both available from RC Showcase for $20-$40) Gas in the area behind the engine is very dangerous and should not be allowed to continue.

My second comment is to know something about the seller. RC Universe offers the "karma" listings. Read them and check with previous buyers. I have done that successfully a number of times and always add to a seller's "karma" when a deal goes well. You are doing everytone a favor by making that effort. In other words check the seller's references. I have had no deals go bad.
