Iv just purchased an aircraft. Im being told that has a quadra engine installed. How can I determine what engine is actually in the plane?
I bought an airplane with a Quadra self starting engine installed. It has the spring starter. The only numbers I see on it are 9K1020. I would like to know the fuel oil ratio recommended and any other information on the care and feeding of this engine. Thanks

Look at the prop, if it's an 18 inch the engine could be a Q35 or 42, if it's a 20 inch it could be a 50 or 52...the 50 and 52 cylinders bolt onto the base with 4 bolts, the 35 and 42 have a base that splits on the crank centerline...If the carb is on the side of the crankcase instead of the cylinder it's a 65 or larger....

Welcome to RCU John. Take a look here, [link=http://www.us-engines.com]US Engines[/link] You can find pictures, drawings and owners manuals for the Quadra line as well as parts if needed.

Dick Bennett is excellent with Quadra engines. He has a site WWW.bennettbuilt.com that has parts listings for Quadra engines. Have any pics of the engine? Where in Jersey are you?

Im in burlington county. I can take pics of the engine. It does have an 8/20 prop on it with three bolts holding it to the spring starter. The carb is on the left side as you look at the engine. The plane came from an estate sale. I have no idea when it was last flown. But it looks good and was well built and the flight pack battery has a date of 2002 and the word new. So its probably flown since then. Thanks for the information

Its a 20 inch prop. And there are three bolts holding it onto the spring starter. The prop is held between two plates with a single bolt and then there are three bolts that go through the prop hub and two spacers and then onto the spring starter. The carb is on the left side of the engine as you look at the engine. I dont see a means to choke it. Certainly not from the outside when the cowl is on. Thanks for your help.

Ok I think its a quadra 52. Its the only one with the prop set up like mine. I have several good two cycle oils. Sthll for my chain saws and some zenoah oil. I know the sthll is very good oil. I didnt see any particular oil called for in the brief manual I saw online. Im going to try to run it today. Thanks again for all your help
