Default Running 6.0v on ignition

Just curious how many out there are using 6v batteries on their DA ignitions?
Any using 6v on C&H ignitions or do they recommend against it?

I would like to know if 6v works w/o issues on most ignitions, I would like to go to all 6v batteries if possible.
Thanks
Craig

I've used li-ion with lm317t regulator with the ign (CH) on my bme twin. Max voltage on the setup is 7.8. Approx 120min. air time with 830mah li.

The 6v should be fine.

6.0v on the DA ignition is fine.

Some C&H Ignitions can be used with 6.0v, look on the label it will specify as such.

3W's newer versions of ignitions work with 6.0v, these are known as blue-dot version's. Check the label for proper input voltage.

Thanks guys. Good info Michael, I wondered what the whole blue-dot stuff meant.
I will check the label on my CH.

Default ...but why?

Hi Woodscra,

How are you? I was just wondering why you want to run 6v on the ignition. There are no advantages that I know of. The battery is going to weigh more for a given capacity, and it probably won't last as long as a 4.8. I've run 6v on ignitions before, but that was because I was running Duralites and there wasn't a choice. When not using Duralites I always run a 4.8v battery to save weight.

BTW, I've had a couple of blue dot 3W ignitions and it's just a little blue sticker on the outside. The printing on the ignition box still says 4.8v.

Scary thought, especially since the statement printed on the front of the box is the same in either case. I wonder if there is a way to tell for sure.

That is very un-nerving in fact. Safe bet is to always go 4.8v.

I was informed by Kirk from First Place Engines that Bill from c and h recommends not to use 6 volt Metal Hydrate batt on his ignitions nicads is ok the reason being the metal packs are charging up over 7 volts on a fresh charge and could damage the ignition . I have since to all 4.8 metal packs i am sold on metal packs have been using them for 2 years now no problems at all.
