Sachs 3.2
Do Sachs engines have a problem with balance or shaking when idling? I have one that I bought here about a year ago with C&H ignition and at idle it about turns over my TR-260. I have my standoffs softmounted (which I'm sure contributes to the problem). At higher RPM it seems fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated

A friend of mine used to own a Sachs 3.2. That thing raun awesome but did shale like hell at idle. I believe that is just the nature of that engine. Sorry I could not be of more help.

Most singles will shake at the lower rpms. and depending on the soft mounting system you are using Might magnify any shaking. And sometimes being a little off on the timing could also contribute. And of course being a used engine, it may be possible the crank could be bent or twisted, check the run out on the prop hub. Pull the plug, put an indicator on the hub and turn it slowly.
Something to get you started.

I dial indicated the crank.....it's less than .001, bearings are free and no sign of sloppiness. Must just be the nature of the beast. I'll play around with the mounting and see if I can reduce the shaking that way. )

RE: Sachs 3.2
I have a Sachs 3.2 that had the same problem that you describe. The problem went away when I discarded the soft mounts and hard mounted the engine direct to the firewall. Hard mounting the engine did not create any undue vibration problems with the model airframe. I should point out, however, that I used a 1/2 inch, 9 ply plywood firewall, which is very rigid.

If the low end is too rich, they will shake a lot as well. I too would recomend hard mounting. I tried to soft mount a couple of times and was not happy with the results.
