I have a BME 44 and it's giving me a tiny bit of trouble and I need help. It's kind of all over the place with low speed needle settings. During a flight the engine missed a could times. It never misses, so I landed. Next flight I had a bit of a wait with the running engine while the runway cleared. The engine throttle then wouldn't transition correctly and I could not clear it satisfactorily. It seemed loaded up. Back in the pits a bunch of needle fiddling to richer and leaner never really solved anything.

I suspect it may have either 1) debris in the carb or filter somewhere or 2) need a new plug. First of all, how can you tell the difference? Secondly, where is the "crap trap" on this carb?

I admit I have not been filtering my fuel between the tank and the carb and the plane just came off of break in gas and I've started running synthetic oil. Any help appreciated.

There is a large phillips head screw on one side of the carb. Loosen this and the whole plate and rubber gasket come off. The screen is underneath.

I use a filter on the line (red aluminum filter from Hangar 9 unscews will a very fine replacable plastic screen inside which looks like a bucket- don't know the name) from my gas can and between the tank and the carb. Have not had a problem since I started filtering. Prior to that, I had a Brison and BME both quit in flight. The screen on the Brison was about half full of something but it was enough clog that the engine would not even start.

Have you actually taken the plug out?

Regapping, and making sure it isn't fouled would be a good start....

Perhaps you've already done this.
