what is the best way to break in a brison 5.8 single? engine currently has 30 min of run time on it using 50:1 amsoil synthetic oil blend. Have heard of running lawnboy for a few gallons at 32:1, will i have to change the carb settings between these or is the factory setting pretty good? just asking, first experience with a brison

From what I've learned in running my BME, you want to go with the lawn-boy type(mineral based) oils for at least 5 gallons. That will give everything a chance to wear in, and seat nicely. It's true that mineral based oils are not near as smooth as synthetics, which for break-in you want a bit more friction so it does break-in.
You might want to check my info out here, but you shouldn't run synthetic until you have 5 to 10 gallons through it. If you run synthetic from the start, it's going to take a coons age to break-in. I'm switching to synthetic at 5 gallons. I actually thought too that it would take me forever to get 5 gallons ran through it. I've got a gallon and a half to go, and I know I can go through at least a gallon this weekend. Once you get the engine in an airframe it won't take long. I ran the first gallon on the test stand, after that there was absolutely no need to continue to run the engine. It was totally ready, and I think I could've mounted it after a half gallon, and some would've said to mount it immediately. hehe..one gallon was sufficient though to fly.

Your Brison engine has a Nikasil lined cylinder that will take about 50 HOURS of run time to "break in". You DO need to run a petroleum based oil for the first 5 gallons or so, then you can switch to a synthetic. I have a Brison 2.4 (2 of em) a 4.2, 5.8 and two 6.4's. I have never switched to a synthetic oil in any of them. I am using Suzuki CCI petroleum oil at 50:1 in all of them. No problems. Even after 600-700 flights on one of the 6.4's.

I ran a couple of gallons of gasoline using 32:1 Penzoil 2-cycle oil through my Brison 5.8 and the compression was so good at that time that I switched to Klotz KL-300 synthetic at 50:1. I've been very satisfied with the results. I don't remember having to change the needle valve settings. I fly a real variety of gassers including a Brison 6.4 and the Brison 5.8 is absolutely one of the best.
