Default gas engine muffler pressure

I am new to gas engines. Could someone please tell me what temp the muffler should run so i can pick a gasket material? Also do you have to use muffler pressure tap to vent fuel tank or can it go to atmosphere, the tygon tubing melted on my muffler tap.
