Can the cylinder be turned on a ZDZ 40 to make it rear exhaust. Is there any tunned pipes that work well with this engine? Thanks Captinjohn

Since ZDZ makes a rear exhaust version of this engine, I am assuming you already have the side exhaust model?

There may be a problem with the piston. The piston skirt must completely cover the exhaust port when at TDC. Unlike smaller glow engines that have full length piston skirts around the entire piston circumference, these gassers frequently have the piston skirt cut away near the ends of the wrist pin. I would check with the folks at RC Showcase before attempting this.

Piston is different -
and there are pipes - also tuned cans available.
The ZDZ40 RE on a tuned can- is a excellent, powerful setup -
My suggestion - get the RE- a 40size KS tuned can-and a header kit for the ZDZ40 RE.
The new 40RE wWalbro carb is probably the nicest 40 setup I have seen-for compact installations.
Power is second to none.

I do not have a ZDZ40. I thought maybe the rear exhaust version would make the cleanest setup. I want all the imfo I can get on how they run on pipes. Thanks very much Dick Hansen. That is real good news. Now what planes work well with the rear exhaust setup? If anyone has some photos feel- free to post them. Thanks Much John :

Kits? Arfs?
Most new kits and Arfs are built to appeal to the rapidly increasing "model flier " who can not or chooses not to do any work other than some assembly-
This is a part of evolution - which was bound to happen.
I have also stuck together quite a few of these.
Some good -some simply POS.
(That's pieces of crap )
If you do however, like to do custom stuff - most kits will readily adapt.
I have put tuned pipe inside H9 TCraft -with a 40 .
great setup -but not recommended by Horizon!
Way too much power - their words -not mine.
As a suggestion - just a suggestion -the new ZDZ40 Sportsman with the attached Bisson muffler is a compact setup -(rear carb -close fitting side muffler) Which should fill some tight cowl setups.--No mods to airframes.
I like the cans and pipes for the quiet power .

Dick,

Any RPM difference between side and rear exhaust 40s?

Thanks,

Bruce
