Default Is this a Quadra 35 or 42?

Got this used plane the other day, and I'm not sure what size the engine is. I was told it was a G38, but it appears to be something else. It has an 18X10 prop. The plane is the Byron Glassair TD. It took some time, but it finally fired up and ran. But I think it's low on compression and needs bearings. I'm trying to decide if it's worth having repaired or not. I'd like to know the general consensus, as to whether the engine is up to the task. (What do you think RC, should I send it to ya?)

Jai,
look in the exhaust port, if it has 1 ring it is a Q35 if it has 2 rings it is a Q42.
My Q42 turns a 18x10 @8200 pulls a 16# Fun Fly plane with no problems at all

1 ring is 35 and 2 rings is a 40 not a 42 (I have the 35 and the 40). Newer 40's with aluminum prop bub have only one ring. This is an older engine as it has a steel prop hub on it. Has points also (wire coming from behind flywheel to coil). What rpm were you getting with the 18X10?

These old quadras don't start all that easy. They need to be primed till they pop and then you have to flip the prop thru with AUTHORITY. On my Q35 i have to flip it through fast but then it generally starts fairly easily. What makes you think it needs bearings? These engines usually outlast the owner

Quadras and US engines in that size have roller bearings on the crank, not as tight as a ball bearing would be...There is no fix....If it runs well don't worry about some up and down play..www.bennettbuilt.com
for piston rings...
