i recently bought a gp pitts 1/3 scale. i bought the u.s. engines 41 as preferred in the instructions, then i read that this engine doesn't have enough power for full aerobatics! i have three engines near this size, but am unsure what to use. they are a quadra 52s, a miller 50, and a moki 1.8. i understand that some modiftcations should be made but i'm unsure what sort. any help that could be offered would be greatly appreciated.

I have the pitts & I am running a g-62 in it, you should be able to use the Q-52 without too many problems. I know some people with the us-41 in their plane & are kind of dissapointed in the performance. The us-41 looks to barely get the plane off the ground. As far as mods go you should pin & fiberglass the engine box & do the top wing mods as suggested by great planes.
Good Luck

thanks rc, you said something about not having too many problems with using the q52. what sort of problems? are they structural in nature, or is this engine still too small to get the job done?

no the engine should have plenty of power for this plane, the problems I was refering to is the installation of the engine. You need 6 1/2'' between the firewall & prop hub. On mine I had to cut 3/8'' out of the cup mount & have it alluminum welded back together to acheive the 6 1/2'' needed so the spinner wouldn't stick out too far in front of the cowl. But as far as the power goes the Q-52 should be fine. You can do a search on the great planes 1/3 scale pitts & find all the info you will need to do any mods you might need to do to this plane.
Good Luck
