RE: CRRC GF45i
Do you guys know which one is the latest version of this engine? I´ve been offered one with the carb on the right, muffler on the left (pitts style, exhaust pipes back of the cylinder), multiple prop screws, shiny metal box for the EI , and another with the carb on the left, side mounted pitts muffler, light blue plastic box for the EI, and a single prop screw? Is there any material difference between them in terms of performance and reliability?

I passed up on one that they were calling the same thing but it had a black cly., came with the auto advance and had a slightly different hub and carb plumbing. I really don't know how many versions exist.

G'day Don M.
Yours is version 3,and as you already know you have the latest rcexl ignition.
The engine with the black cylinder you mentioned is a Peak models 45.
Cheers,
Craig

I've tried looking through this thread for the poster who identified himself as the local CRRC Pro importer. I'm after an inverted pitts muffler and the US pricing (and shipping) will kill me.

Thanks Craig and Ace. I will look into them and see what happens.
It's amazing how quick the prices stack up, which makes me think this is a long term project...

RE: CRRC GF45i
Has anyone tried a Vess propeller on there 45i. The smallest they make is the 22", so the 22a would probably be the best choice, but I dont know if that would be too much prop for the engine.

RE: CRRC GF45i
Hi 00airman.
I have run a 22x8 Zinger prop.
The revs dropped from 8300 (20x8 APC) down to 5550 rpm.
The thrust increased from 20lbs to 22lbs.
The motor had little if any response above half throttle, but this was more then enough.
Another good side was the reduction in noise.
The only real down side was ocassional ground strike with the larger prop, had to be carefull on landings.
I intend to try a 21x8 Hawk prop once I finish some mods to the model (including more ground clearence).
Bernie.

RE: CRRC GF45i
I'm having starting problems with my engine. Hopefully one of the experienced guys here can clue me in.
I have the CDI auto-advance ignition. I have been only able to start the engine twice. Both times the engine was cold. The plane had been sitting in my basement in the A/C. I got the engine to start fairly quickly cold, but the engine only ran for a minute or two. I've been trying to adjust the needle valves, but haven't gotten it to stay running very long.
After both initial shutdowns, I was unable to restart the engine. It did act like it wanted to start a few times (stuttered for a few seconds), but in the end it wouldn't.
Once the engine is warm, do I:
-reprime it?
-choke it?
-go to low throttle?
-go to high throttle?
-swear at it?
-throw a tantrum?
I'm new to gasoline engines, so any advice is appreciated.
Thanks
Kerry

RE: CRRC GF45i
Could someone who owns the CRRC Pro 45cc please measure the distance between the centres of the bolt holes for the exhaust outlet? I have a Peak 45cc which I believe is very similar and I want to replace the muffler as the one that came with the engine is big and bulky and won't fit on my engine without having to trim away some of the engine box, which I don't want to do. I can find a muffler produced for the CRRC that would fit without hacing to do any cutting but I just want to check first whether the bolt holes are the same dimensions as my Peak.
Thanks, FJ

G'day fjaust,The crrcpro 45,thor 45, peak 45 and zenoah 45 have the same exhaust bolt centre spacing.I measured my crrcpro 45 across the bolt head centres on assembled muffler to be 42.5mm.Keep in mind you do have slight leeway with the slotted exhaust flange mount.

RE: CRRC GF45i
I bought one of these engines from Green Models USA (Maxford). I am on my third muffler, this is one that I had welded back together . Engine has ran great on ground when muffler stayed together. The two times i put in in the air it died. Solved problem today, put it in a boat, tied a line and a quart jug to the line. makes one nice fishing spot locator. I could also recommend it as paper weight, nose weight in a giant scale or just resale as scrap alum. , AT THE CURRENT PRICE WILL BRING ABOUT $2.50. In no way would i attempt to sell this engine to a fellow rcer.

I've got both engines and I can tell you that the DL50 is five times the engine the CRRCPro is. The DL is 100% reliable, has no problems with in-cowl airflows screwing up the mixture, has no problems with RFI causing glitching, needed *zero* mods, additions, changes or tweaks to get it going and looks as if it's going to last a very long time. What's more, the DL puts out about 30-40% more power for *very* little extra weight.
Like yourself, I wouldn't sell my CRRCPro to anyone I didn't really hate :-)

RE: CRRC GF45i
XJet, I will second you on the Dl 50, ordered and it came in about two weeks ago. Fired it up using the same proceedure I start my DA.s with, 3to4 pop, open choke and 3rd. flip it was running. nice smooth idle, top end took about 1/4 turn to peak it. The two most significant things about this engine is 1st. price, more than reasonable and 2nd. the power band that performs so well at mid range, I can't say it has the glitter and big name impression of my DA's . I thought enough of the engine to go ahead and order the second one. One of our club members has ordered one after hearing mine run.

Finally I did measure the ignition and it was way off, now I did set it to approx 31 degrees and voila, runs perfect, I get a mere 200 rpm more at top rpm (7400 Mejzlik 20x8 prop) and handstart is finally possible!!!

How can I measure the timming degrees in my engine?
Thanks...
Pablo.

RE: CRRC GF45i
Hi I has been out of this forum for some time now, but I will like to share this with all of you.
Problem: Engine work fine for 3 minutes in fly, them in a low pass and throutle in idle engine had hi rpm's. Emergency landing, 3 feet before the begining of the runway I turn the engine off. Perfect landing. Inspection in flyline did not show nothing. 1 hour later try to start engine, engine will not start at all, no fuel going into carburator. Never start at all. going home.
During inspection at home found: In front of the engine the head gasket to crakcase missing a piece of gasket. Bommer[sm=angry_smile.gif]
I took picture to share with you, after the replacement of the gasket, engine work like new. Crrcpro is a good engine. I am bery happy with it, but I did change the gasket in the carburator, the gasket in my generation2 crrcpro are bad quality. Hope this help someone trouble shoot the engine in the future, the faliour was in the intake side of the cilinder head. Everithing when back together with gasket sealand.

I have over a 100 fly's on this engine, and so far is been exelent, my is generation 2 and is ok so far, no mayor issues, this is nothing and is easy to fix, from the pictures you can see how i did the replacement gasket first with a white piece o paper and later trace in gasket material from the autoparts shop. I just what to share this with you guy. Happy flying. Tomorrow is the jet scramble heart of ohio. see you guys.
