Default engine help please what to do

I am looking to get the hanger 9 27% 260 and need help with what engine to get. My LHS has first place engines 3.2 but not sure if that is a good engine. would a DA or BME 50cc be better? The price for the FPE looks good but at this point i Dont want to look back and say I should of went for a better engine. I have spent the last couple hours looking this sight and at the engine web sights and I still dont know what to do. All the sights list HP in other ways BHP,HP and thrust how to you witch is best. The BME and DA look about the same to me. I will go for the DA if it is that much better but if they are all the same I will go with the FPE to help my LHS. Please help want to order this week. Thanks Andy

First Place make a very good engine. Very reliable. I have two and love them on the planes they are on. But- you have to look at the application of the engine your considering. I don't think you will be happy with a FPE on a 260. I would go for the BME, ZDZ, or Brison. DA Makes a great engine but they seem to be having a little trouble with there 50cc. (Read/scan this forum.)
If you want a great engine for any high wing aircraft, the FPE is great. For throttle response and raw power, go with the ZDZ, BME, 3W, or Brison.

What is different about F.P.E engines that makes them less powerful and not so good on throttle response?

Well I did a little bit of research on the statement that F.P.E engines lack the power and throttle response compared to the other popular lightweight gassers. Seems this mostly pertains to the 2.4 class engine. The F.P.E. 2.4 uses a Ridge Machine ignition. The timing is fixed at 18 to 20 degrees advanced. FPE sells a CH syncrospark upgrade for the 2.4 that has a new hub at 28 degrees advanced that " makes for easier and safer starting and will give a 500 rpm full throttle gain using the same prop." So I guess the Ridge Machine ignition is not the optimal setup for the 2.4. Not sure how the other size engines stack up. I believe they come standard with CH syncrospark ignitions. I'm glad I did the research as I was about to purchase a used FPE 2.4 with the Ridge ignition.[sm=redface.gif]
