Default Couple of DA50 Q's

I am on my second gallon with my DA50 with a bambula 22x10 prop. My questions are as follows:

1. Should I use hi octane fuel such as 93 octane? I am using plain vanilla unleaded 87 octane.
2. What rpm should I expect with the 22x10 bambula wood prop. I havent leaned it from factory settings, and I am getting 6090 right now which is surely low.

You can use 87 or 93, will not see a difference. Those rpms sound right on that prop, its a big piece of wood. The 50 doesnt like being loaded up like that. Prop it for at least 6500 and you will be good to do. Try a 22x8, something other than a bamula to finish breaking it in.

I agree with the above. The Bambula props turn lower numbers than other brand props of the same diameter and pitch. This may be good or bad depending on the engine. In your case it's a little too much load for that new engine.

22x8 mej, I cant remember the exact rpms I was getting, but it was upper 6K to low 7s. Its a good prop for break in and flying after its broken in, it or a 23x8.

I was getting 7400 rpm on a 22-8 menz. after the 2 nd gallon. you should be getting close to that. dont be scared to lean it out. the oil mixture is doing the breakin for you. you dont want alot of carbon built up the dome of the piston.

I would expect more than 7600 rpm from a Mejzlik 22x8.
My Brison 52cc motor turns a Mejzlik 22x10 at 7200.
The Menz-S 22x8 should be in the middle of the above two props for rpm and load.

wow... and here i was getting excited about getting 6000 [&:]. No wonder my 15lbs plane doesnt have unlimited vertical. I just bought a mejzlik 22x8 today. This weekend I will try and lean out the engine to see what max #'s I get. I am using 32:1 at the mo. Do I need to switch to 50:1 at this stage? Or should I wait a few more gallons? The fule used is simple 87 octane with motorcycle synth oil. (castrol TT)

Hey Anurag.
Where the heck do you get 93 octane gas in Delhi.

Oh...BTW try converting your motor to diesel or better yet try the LPG conversion
Just kidding....

I have been using castrol super TT motorcycle oil until now. I just bought a bottle of Klotz KL200 Technilplate x2. This mixes with both gas and glow fuel. Is this meant to be superior than the castrol super TT? In terms of price, Klotz is 8 times more expensive in India [&:]

Yes...this happened recently with someone I know. They had an ign. unit go bad on them in the first couple of gallons. I dont know what happened though, but I can find out. It was not due to a crash, this I know.

Yep, mine went dead after 7 gallons or so. Sent it in to DA and got a new one no charge.

Wow!!!! What a difference a prop makes!!!!! I changed from a Bambula 22x10 to a menz 22x8.....EXACT SAME FUEL, NO CHANGE IN NEEDLES, EXACTLY SAME CONDITIONS WEATHERWISE.... RPM jumped from 6090 to 7140... I think this is unreal.... moreso since I am still on my second gallon yet. Am I too lean??? Should I richen the mix?

Does the motor sag on uplines? if not you should be ok, remember the menz is a lot less load than that bambula, and your rpms for the menz sound normal.

I wish I could find some RPM numbers on the Bambula 22x8 near sea level. I know that it will be lower than the Menz S 22x8 but not sure by how much. The Bambula 22x8 will be my break in prop.

I am on my second gallon tank of gas on my da50 I flew it tonight and it was making a poping sound like it was four cycling so tryed leaning it flew it again and it sagged. What could be causing this. when should I switch to 50 -1 mix? when I switch to 50-1 will honda hp racing oil work for the mix, or is there something better?

It's too lean.

Popping and sagging are signs of a lean engine.

Turn the high speed needle out 1/2 turn and try it again.

I have the Great Planes Patty 17 lbs of it with DA50 and a Menz 22/8 I have used this prop right from the start with excellent results. Its the best combination lots of pull without excessive speed and the plane is unlimited vertical I keep the RPM at 6800 and after the break in was done 5 gal lawnboy 32:1 87 octane as DA recomended I then switched to Amzoil 100:1. 89 octane This combination has worked well for me I have 2 seasons on this package and it is GREAT I dont think I would use a carbon prop on an engine of this size a bad ground strike could cost you a crankshaft instead of a wood prop.........Just an opinion as to what works for me..........Rick

That Bambula 22x8 is a real puzzle to many -
It loads the engine- hard- much harder than other 22x8 props - don't decide which prop to use based on looking at the blade - you will be fooled in most cases.
Once the Bambula 22x8 gets in the air -it unlads more than th typical 22x8 - I am sure of this because using same palen and simply switching props - I measured static rpm =then in air level flight rpm - the new ZDZ ignition records max revs during a flight -so it is easy to check this out
the 22x8 went from 6650 to 7700 . thats 1050 pm unload
The Mejzlic from 7750 -8400--650
Same size props same day - samo -samo.
the Mejzlic is far better for 3D.
