What do you think of Evolution 1.60 Gas sold by Horizon?
Hi all,
I am thinking of buying an evolution 1.60 gas engine sold by Horizon Hobby to put in my Hangar9 Ultra Stick 120 lite, it'll weigh about 11 1/2 - 12 lbs when done.
ANY COMMENTS ON THIS ENGINE?
I picked it because it looks like it has a good power to weight ratio.
I would like to hear what you guys think and about your experiences with it also.
Thank you.

Sure -it CAN be a great combo!
be sure to buy and use the EVO tuned pipe for it
I am flying this engine and pipe and it yanks the 10 lb model vertically -instantly
Performance is good on a prop like the 18x6 Zinger Pro -about 8500-8800 here at 4350 ft elevation
Do not expect this power on a little bolt on muffler ---

Yes, but where and who sells the tuned pipes I keep hearing about????
I need one for my Funtana 90 with the Evo 26 in it.

The pipe is made by same mfgr as the engine - ask Horizon if they are now in stock they are not expensive -and there is a complete package - header, coupler tyes -bolts n pipe.
It all works as is - perfectly
Don't get inventive
use a prop which easily turns OVER 8200- rich running
use 32-1 Mobil Racing two stroke - period.
Mine now turns just under 10,000 in the air happy as a clam. easy starts etc..

I've got a Pitts muffler on mine but not only is it bulky, but have heard that the tuned pipe rig is lighter and allows the engine to turn up more. I think is was Richard Branson who made that statement.

C'mon fellas, you need to pay closer attention. It was Dick Hanson who said it, and he said it in the second post of this thread. If you don't know Dick, he is about as knowledgeable with aerobatic gasser combinations as you're going to find anywhere. When he says get it with the EVO pipe, you can take that advice to the bank.

I just had a chance to read every one's reply to my post here. Thank you all. I sure do appreciate your comments.
Sounds to me like you folks like this engine.
No one has tried to say that there is better engine for any reason or another yet. May be that is good sign.
Gryphon.

RE: What do you think of Evolution 1.60 Gas sold by Horizon?
This question is for Dick Hanson. My Evo 26 will only turn up 7800 on the ground using an APC 17-6 prop. While it will almost hover my Funtana 90, it is just barely doing it.
Am going to try a wood 18-6 to lighten things up a bit and plan to call Horizon Monday to find out about a tuned pipe to add some RPM.
I wonder if Dick might have some thoughts on this otherwise very fine and smooth running engine?

I have converted many G26s to CD...ALL turned a Mejzlik 18-6 8200 with the stock muffler, 10,000 with a tuned pipe from Macs Products...An EVO 26 MUST be better than a lowly overweight underpowered Zenoah, everyone says so
Try a Mejzlik 18-6 you might be surprised, 1200 more rpm can't hurt

good running 26's will turn around in the 9000's on a 18x6- Using the Zinger Pro a little less -the Mejzlic blade setup turn more -
But if you want to stick an in cowl Pitts type can on any of em -the power will drop like a rock.-any of em
There only way to get the high power and yet keep from having high noise level -is a muffled tuned pipe -Also I think the EVO is easily the lightest of the bunch. in making a really good aerobatic setup -this does help.

Thanks for the advice, all of you.
Have ordered the Evo tuned pipe but it is back ordered. Spoke to the Tech Dept at Horizon and frankly, the sales guy was more helpful than the tech support.
Anyway, will await the tuned pipe rig and when it comes in, will comment on the results.
Thanks

It's great to hear all the positive feedback about an engine us MVVS guys have been loving for years!
