I have a BME 50 mounted on a GP 120/180 Engine mount. I have noticed that the Mount becomes VERY flexable after the engine is warm. I can flex the mount 1/4in plus, both up and down. This makes me very nervous and have not maidened my WH Extra because of this. I am worried the Mount will fail in flight.
If anyone has seen this or anything like it or if you have any other suggestions please let me know. I do have a H9 mount sitting here that I might put in place of the GP.

That mount was never intended to take the stress of a 50cc gasser. It is about maxed out holding a engine half the size of your BME. If you decide to fly it, expect a spectacular failure to occur.

With all due respect to other opinions, please read the thread on the Great Planes Patty Wagstaff - there are probably 10 or 12 flyers that are using the BME 50 with the GP Mount. The thread is going on 2 + years and there has not been a single reported instance of a motor mount failure. Please don't take my word for it - look in the thread and contact some of the users who have also selected this motor mount combination and ask for their experiences.

When you "split" the mount to acommodate the BME, did you support the back of the mount (one half will be 1/8 shorter than the other ) with 1/8 inch plywood so that each half essentially sits flat against the firewall? I've used the GP mount and although I've crashed the planes, it's never been due to a flexing mount

I've used the Hanger 9 mount that was recommended, it's metal and heavier but no flex and no problems.

What about a Hyde mount?

I have been using this mount with the BME 50 as well and after 20 flights no problems yet. I do not have any flexing however. Just make sure everything is secured and solid.

And that it is supported as DaddySam said?
