moki 2.10 or bme 50cc

OK any one who has one of these input would be great as iam stuck which one to use in a patty Gp that will weight 15lbs when done the question is easy of use and all around performance and how are the vibes on the air frame from these motors and glow prices don't scare me

Had the Moki 2.10 in a Midwest 300 and ran great but the Moki is a real thirsty beast.
Have an Aeroworks 29% Edge 540 with the BME 50 and I love the match.
Go with the BME 50, you won't regret it.

Go with Gas. Much cheaper in the long haul. My BME - and everyone else's BME - run great. Expect approx 7000 rpm with a Menz 22x8 (wide blade) from a BME-50. Unlimited on a 15 lb plane.
BTW - 15lbs sounds heavy on the GP 300. Is that what they are coming in at? Also worth considering, can that plane handle a 22 inch prop?

Amen 9 flights on my Cap with a Moki and 9 deadsticks.This after a long break in period. If it is such a good engine why do you have to use aftermarket gadgets to make it work. I wouldn't give you ten cents for the three I had, and I never have engine problems with anything else I have owned.

All the post are correct but both engines have a place. I have both. I have the BME on a Edge 540 and a Mokie on a Sukhoi. Both planes are in the 12-13 lb range and both engines perform great. As stated above the Mokie is a fuel hog but for the speed it produces to me its worth it while the BME is not quite as snappy but does the job a little cheaper.Both engines in my books are great and are proven in the air.

I've had a Moki 1.8 and Moki 2.1 over the years and have never had a problem with either, The 2.1 is extremely powerful, had it in a Midwest Cap , no cline pump and it ran flawless.
My only beef was the fuel, I replaced it with a zdz 40 but, was disappointed, the ZDZ 40 was no where close in power or smoothness, U have to go over 50cc gas to get the Moki 2.1 power.
The only advantages to gas in this displacement range are cost of fuel and no oily goo on the plane. All other advantages favour the Moki. Now those may be big advantages, U decide.
I've since moved on to larger planes and hence gone exculsively gas but, I look back very favorably on the MOKI's

with58 - I am not saying the Moki is a bad motor. My friend's Moki 1.80 runs great on his 26% Carden Extra. However, it ran like cr@p until he put the Cline pump on it.
Regardless, I think the BME-50 is to big to install on the GP Extra 300. Why weigh down that plane with those thin wings? The Moki 2.10 would probably be the better choice. Expect $1.25 in 5% glow fuel PER FLIGHT.

I have a freind who recently flew his maiden flight on the GP Wagstaff Extra with a Taurus 3.2/52cc gasser. Excellent combination, awesome power... Weight is around 15-1/2lbs.. Planes flies great and looks even better...
The Moki 2.10 complete with radial engine mount and Pitts type exhaust weighs approximately 7 seven ounces more than a BME 50 complete with engine mount, stock exhaust and ignition. Add battery weight which is around three ounces minimum, dependent on cell type and size. You're still lighter and have a more powerful engine that runs for pennies comparatively...

well the info is great i am going with gas and will be putting a fox 3.2 in a member at the club has one with low time on it and has in a cap 232 lanier arf and flies great with a ton of power and the price is wright thanks for all the great reply keep it going the more info the better for all of us thank :rainfro:

I have three Moki's and am very happy with all. I use zero nitro fuel I mix myself at about $6 per gallon, OS "f" Plug, and muffler pressure only. Imho, they give you the best power to weight ratio in their horsepower class.

This matches your weight as the Pitts muffler is a good 2 or 3 oz heavier. Do you also use the GP nylon mount?
The BME-50 weight (engine only and prop nut and washer) is 2 lb 14.5 oz.

Here are some additional ACTUAL weighs as measured on a digital scale. I believe the numbers I provided above were actually for the 44 not the 50....
BME 44 = 2-11.5oz
BME 50 = 3-2.25oz
+ Spark Plug 1.25oz
+ JA Pitts 6.25oz
+ C&H(rubber cap) 4oz
BME-44 total weight 3-7.0oz
BME-50 total weight 3-13.75oz
The weights for the two most popular mounts are
Great Planes 4.25oz
Hanger 9 5.75oz

I guess that Keith mailed me a lighter engine. The ACTUAL (pictures don't lie) weight of the BME-50 (engine only) is 2 lb - 14.5 oz. Note that my BME has the lighted prop shaft and lightened prop washer. Perhaps this explains the approx 1/4 lb difference. I used the GP mount and cut an inch or more off the rails to lighten it further.
