mvvs 45 & DA 50 actual weights
I saw the thread somewhere, but cannot find it, who has weighed the mvvs 45 and da 50? with all components, prop bolts, ignition, etc, no muffler?

flyinrazorback I can't help you with the weight of the DA 50, but here's a picture of my MVVS 45MC W/ignition. As you can see, weighs 3 lb 5. 4ozs (everything but muffler) It's a very good looking engine but I'm waiting to get the plane ready that it's going on. (Kangke Lazer 2000).

RE: mvvs 45 & DA 50 actual weights
I saved this from a post from MGlavin. He used a digital scale for weighing, and I have 2- DA50's and can vouch for the accuracy.
I will add that the stock DA muffler weighs 5 oz.
DA50 at 3lbs.-12ozs. with ignition, stock DA muffler, 2.5†stand-offs, prop bolts and washer.
Slimline Pitts style muffler less smoke pre-heater coil add 6ozs.

THAT SOUNDS EXACTLY RIGHT. My 45MG weighed 3lb 2.8 oz with everything but muffler. add 5 oz muffler you are at 3 lb 8 oz. Actually my 45 weighed 8 oz less than a DA 50 on the same scale. So the DA weighs anywhere from 5 to 8 oz less than the DA 50.

The DA-50 is just a little lighter than the MVVS 45.
In the pic of the MVVS, you'll notice no prop bolts, & no stand offs.
In the pics of the DA-50 you'll see the engine, with ignition, all the prop bolts, with and with out the 3" standoffs.
Taking the prop bolts out will give an even lower weight.

I have not run the MVVS 45.
I do have the MVVS 58 and find it very smooth.
Same with my DA's too.
Most of all, balance ALL props.
I use the DuBro and lead BB's.
Drill a small hole, insert the BB and CA, simple.

Wrong..............The prop bolts and everything that came with the engine is on the digital scales. There is a Prop Bolt, Washer, And six other prop bolts that go through the prop. The DA is not as light as the MVVS 45. "Sorry"

The MVVS 45 w/ no standoffs @ 3Lbs 5.4oz.
The DA-50 w/ no standoffs @ 3Lbs. 4oz.
The DA-50 comes out 1.4oz. less than the magnesium case version MVVS 45.
Sorry but the scales don't lie

Not saying the scales lie at all. But the not all scales are the same. I'm sure, (I know) I could make my scales read 2 lbs if I wanted too. I'm sure yours are correct. I think mine are also. I guess we could refer to their webb sites, where the DA is listed as being heavier than the MVVS 45MC.

I also notice in your picture that some of the bolts are laying on the table . Oh Well........They say "a picture's worth a thousand words."

The "bolts laying on the table and not in the engine " are the standoffs
Heres some pics of weights using two scales.
Looks pretty darn close to me.
All things being the same, ie. engine/Ign./all prop bolts/no muffler or standoffs.
The DA-50 comes out 1.4oz. less than the magnesium case version MVVS 45.
The DA-50 is still lighter.

Heres a few pics of the weights for the "other items"
3" long standoffs @ 3.6oz.
Side mount muffler @ 4.9oz.
Complete package to mount @ 3Lbs 12.8oz.
I'd say that my two scales were accurate.

RE: mvvs 45 & DA 50 actual weights
Flyinrazorback Obviously I manipulated the scales to make the weight shoe less than it actually weighs. My first post shows the actual weight of my motor MVVS 45 MC. I don't know what the weight is of a DA 50 because I got rid of the one that I had last year. "Broken Crank" before 1 gallon of fuel. I haave no reason to think that "Flier" is telling anything but the truth. But........what his scales read, and what DA's webb site state, are not in agreement. Maybe others will come on here and give you the weights that you need. The MVVS 45 has a nice motor mount on it and it also has three bearings on the crankshaft. Who knows how the reliability of the engine, or the performance will prove to be. As of now, and from my own PERSONAL use, I have found no other engine that compares with the "TAURUS" 3.2 in the 50cc range.

RE: mvvs 45 & DA 50 actual weights
MVVS specs the weight of the 45's as follows:
Ignition weight . . . .165g
Engine 45IRS/45MG. . . 1400/1290g
This gives us
Ign. @ 5.8oz. (heavy)
Eng. @ 3Lbs. 1.3oz./2Lbs 13.5oz.
Eng. w/ Ing.
IRS @ 3Lbs. 7.1oz.
MG @ 3Lbs. 3.3oz.
These are the weights listed in the MVVS flier sent with my 58.
Looks like Bob's engine is fat by 2.1oz.
Unlike Bob and his trick weight I'm presenting true and accurate data.

That's what I'm doing also flier. Don't take it personal. Maybe mine is fat I don't know OK. Now read the specs on the DA. I didn't build the engine, all I did was buy it because someone said it was a great engine. we'll see. What counts is how it performs. I'll put it to the test just like I did with any other engine I have. If it out performs the "TAURUS" engine, then I'll figure I have a winner. It's for sure, The DA won't.

RE: mvvs 45 & DA 50 actual weights
True Bob, the proof is in the flying!
Use what works for you.
There are many Great 50cc class engines out now to chose from.
I'd have thought that the MG Ver. would have been lighter than the DA myself.
Never owned a Taurus, hope to see one someday.
I do like the power that the MVVS puts out.
Pound for pound, it's among the best I've seen so far.

RE: mvvs 45 & DA 50 actual weights
Thats cool, either way both are good motors, I have only had the DA 50, no probs. I am awaiting the release of the new 3w 55i (rear carb) that is due out in a month or so.
