Default Super Tiger 3000? or 3250

I have an engine that is a Super Tiger 3000 with the numbers 325 just beneath it. I bought it new for a decent price and would like to know a little more about it.

Does this engine have a history of carb problems like the ST 2300?

What prop and fuel does this engine work best with? Can I get away with running 16% oil instead of the 10% ST fuel called for?

What nitro?

What is the best prop for this engine for a 1/4 scale Cap 232?

If engine has carb problems, what is the best replacement carb out there to cure this engines ills?

It has a Bisson pitts muffler, will I have to plug one of the exhaust tips to improve the carb response?

Any help, to include other website links, would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy

Most likely if it has 325 on the left hand side it is a 3250. I've tried running my 3000 and a friends 3250 on 15% nitro and 18% oil and they just don't transition good and have a tendency to load up. If your wanting to change carbs the OS 1.08 carb will work with an adapter I think. As far as prop size an 18X10 is probably gonna give you the best performance or maybe just a tad smaller. If you do a search you'll find plenty of info on the Big Tigres to get you steered in the right direction. Hope this helps.

Default st3000

HI
I had the same problems with a used 3000, quit on me both 1st and 2nd flt.
After much research here is what I found;
Throw the stock Carb and go to an OS.7d
NO NITRO or at least no more than 5%
Use large fuel line from the tank to the carb, use a large clunk. drill out the fitting on the new Carb just a little bit BE CAREFUL cant drill out much.
Keep tank outlet at the same level as the carb. I flew my Stearman yesterday and it ran fine I used a 13x6 prop, and im at about 5000 ft. Hope this helps

You've got a 3250 there. I've been running a 3000 and have been loving it. Here is what I am using:

Standard Super Tigre "K" carb
Medium fuel tubing
K&B 1L glow plug
5% Omega fuel
20 x 8 Top Flite Prop
Bisson Pitts muffler

I was very worried about this engine after having read all kinds of horror stories about them dying in the air for one reason or another. This engine has turned out to be one of the sweetest running engines I have ever had. Starts on the second flip after proper priming.

I almost forgot. Before my first flight I decided to add a Perry Pump just in case, what a mistake. The midrange became awful. I disconnected it and went flying. Lesson learned, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I run my ST3000 with an OS7D carb. I think its the carb for the OS 108, but not really sure.

I run Omega 5% fuel. It's the cheapest fuel around these parts at $12 a gallon. I run an 18-10 prop.

I made no modifications to the carb. I just put the sucker on and all my troubles went away. The engine runs great and never coughs or hiccups.

You need to be mindful of the high speed needle setting. I was running my engine too rich at first. This carb is VERY sensitive. When I had the needle too rich- it would die when throttle was cut to idle suddenly. Run it about 3 or 4 clicks rich and it should run fine. I had mine about 7 or 8 clicks rich and it was too much.

You'll have to experiment with yours to find the "sweet spot". But just keep it in mind that if it starts dieing when you cut throttle quickly- you might be too rich on the high speed needle.

Really a great engine and carb combination.

I am running 2 ST2000, 1 ST3000, and have been running one ST3250. I have had NO success w/the stock carbs, or conventional fuel. I switched to the OS7D carb in 3 of the engines, and Perry carb in the others. The perry carb works just as well as the OS, and is considerably cheaper ($32.00 at the LHS). I also switched to ST fuel (coolpower), w/lower oil content. All of the engines run very well w/this setup.

Hope this helps, Bill

Default Carb

Who sells the Perry Carb that you got for your 3250?

Would a Cline Regulator help the stock carb?

Default Big Super Tigres

My two cents. A much cheaper alternate to the OS Carb ( Have not tried the Perry which is getting good reviews) is the ASP 108 and remove the restrictor in the barrel.
It is also imperitive to use ST blend fuel with lower oil content or the engine does not run well and will cover your plane in oil.
Good Luck,
Twinman

I purchased my perry carb from the LHS. It's the same carb designed for the 2000/3000, and sold for $32.00. Tower also carries them

Try the Perry Carb, OS "F" Plug and 15% Omega. I'm running a 2000 and 2500 this way with great results. My 2500 swings a mezlik 18X8 @ around 8800. I have this on a Sig Cap 231EX and keep ripping things off due to the speed. I'm not using any pumps on these engines and have not had any fuel delivery problems. I also run the same Perry carb on an OS .91fsr (crash destroyed original), good dollar value.
