DA 50 question

This engine runs great but I did noticed one thing: The last 5 or so degrees of stick movement on the throttle don't yield any gain in RPM. Is this the way the thottle is supposed to work on this engine? I will probably just decrease the end point on the full throttle side to take this dead spot out. Is this normal on the Waldbro carb?
I did confirm that the thottle is actually moving on the engine during this last part of stick motion. So it's not binding.

Yea that is about right..Im no expert but from what Ive read, the max rpms are reached before the butterfly is fully opened..It takes some work to get a fully linear throttle curve but you can get close with a 5 point throttle mix..or dialing in some expo..I try to set my throttle so that the butterfly is 1/2 open with the stick on my tx at 1/2 throttle..doing this, the servo arm winds up pretty close to 90 degrees..then I can adjust my curve accordingly..
Im sure you will get some better advice from the more experienced but that works for me.

I agree with Josey. I set my curves like this
get it idling as whatver RPM you want. Then without any curve go to full throttle and get it set for MAX RPM minus 200 for in air and start reducing the curves percentage until you just hear the rpm drop then increase a precent or two. Close and open the throttle a few times to make sure you see the same RPM figures
Now using a tach, find half throttle by reducing the stick until you see half the rpms you had at full throttle, set your curve to 50% at the stick position shown on the screen of the radio.
Now set the other points in the mix to remove the high and low spots so your curve is pretty much a diagonal line
To give you an example, my curve for a brison 3.2 looks like this on my 9303
Point L idle 0%
Point 1 10%
Point 2 23%
Point 3 half throttle 35%
Point 4 46.5%
Point 5 58.5%
Full throtlle 70%
I've done it this way tons of times. Once I get used to the plane and find the spot on the stick where it likes to hover then I will flatten the curve in that area
I;f someone has a better method I'm also all ears

Wow, I did not know it got this complex but I guess I'd rather know the right way to do it. It makes me almost want to go back and move my control rod in one hole on the servo arm since I don't need nearly as much travel on the carb side. I'll have to go look at my Futaba 9C manual to firgure out that throttle curve.

one other point in the direction of Bubbagates comments, also being a 9303 owner, if you have your flight modes setup and use a specific flight mode for torque rolling, you can set 2 separate throttle curves and designate a "very broad in the middle" curve to activate with your "torque rolling" flight mode, and use the other curve for normal flying. Just a thought.
