Ok so I am on this list I hope. I emailed and will call tommorow. I like 3rd scale planes, but man this is one sweet engine! Blows DA out of the water and I fly DA among other engines.

Ralph,
I read through this thread and didn't find that mentioned anywhere. I seem to recall a statement or opinnion from Keith a long time ago, about never going to use a cantilever crank shaft in an engine, so a statement from the top on this one would be in order.

He already did somewhere, cantilever....
Most engines with a rear carb are cantilever, whether reed or rotary valve...3W is an exception. 3W engines have a bearing small enough on the rear to have room for the reed valve...

RE: BME 55 Extreme Specs
Sorry, I thought it was in there...Seems like Keith told me about it last week sometime...
At least I HOPE he did
If the engine were to be offered with rear induction it would almost have to be a cantilever crank, unless there was a redesign of the rear part of the case..Then it would be heavier...
Hard to tell from the picture, but the rear part of the case looks like it just plugs in, and the thread says "counterweight" (singular) in the part about balancing with Tungsten...

Keith, can you sell it without ign? Are you switching over to Falkon for your entire line, including the twins?
You are coming out with some really interesting gassers. Good for you!

RE: BME 55 Extreme Specs
Hey guys, I still have the list from the first time we started taking names for the 55cc engine. I had to hold off on it because we were buried with 110 orders. After proto typing every engine configuration we could think of I had a change of opinion about the cantilever crankshaft design. If done properly with correct bearing placement and press fit it can be just as smooth as a double counterweight. The advantage of a cantilever is weight and cost to produce. Also its the only way to go if you use a rear induction system regardless of reed or rotary valve. In a double counterweight rear induction design such as the 3W part of your induction flow is limited by the counterweights getting in the way. I have always prefered reed valve induction so it was utilized on this engine. The crank and prop drive is the exact same front crank used in our 110. I dont think you will ever damage it.
Thank you

O.K. Keith to worry you one more time,, it looks like the throttle hook up on the side carb motor will be sort of and hard angle to hook up , or am I trying to look at it and make it to hard,,, and if I was to get on the list ,, are you all but assuring me that they will be shipping in april,,,, and would these be rear or side carb or optional,, thanks

The side intake is at an odd angle but if you mount your servo under the firebox it works great. The reason is for the reed to be at the best angle for performance. In a rear induction version the carb throttle arm will be in line with the fuse. God willing and the creek doesnt rise they will be out in late April. All engines are supplied with Falkon ignitions.

The side carb will fit in most any aerobatic plane that this size engine is suitable for. The rear induction version will be good for scale and warbirds. I here from several pattern guys they want to try it as well.

With the prototype, did you use a tuned pipe, or a canister,& which one. You said you will be carrying the KS header for it, will you also carry the canister. And if so which one is it. Is it the KS 1075?

Hi,
Here is a possible likeness of the Extreme 55cc, bases on the 110cc twin. I wonder how close I came? I guess I'll find out in April. After looking at the picture, I think that the carb will be on the other side.

Just ordered a yellow spitfire kit. Looking now for an engine for it. This BME 55 with rear mounted carb may be the perfect combo. When will the rear carb version of this engine be available?

I like the side intake---especially if it protudes out the cowl. I've seen a couple guys at our field flood their ZDZ's and didn't realize it until they took off their cowls and most of the poop deck and the front half of the plane was full of fuel.
1. Much harder to flood without noticing it.
2. and, best of all, better air flow means MORE POWER **!!**
{I'm putting myself on the list for one of these}
