Default BME 102 DB Readings

BME-102 DB readings need to be under 98 DB at 9 feet is it possible without using tuned cans? I would like to stay away from 3 bladed props if possible however am open to suggestions. Please help.

Thanks

Mike, no problem getting under 98dB on the stock mufflers with a BME 102. A MenzS 26-10 2 blade will be right on the edge with a broken in motor turning 6700 rpm static. My IMAC prop of choice for my 102 is the MSC 26-10 which turns 6100-6200 rpm while producing 39 pounds of thrust according to my Digital fish scale .....er.........THRUST GAUGE. That's only a pound or two less than the MenzS produced, but is a BUNCH quieter (less rpm). Noise level was less than 96 dB over hard surface! Downline braking is a LOT better also, since the MSC blades are a lot wider than the Menz blades.

Tim,

Did you see the distance, 9 ft. Not IMAC's 25 ft. I don't think it can be done without a 3 blade. It might take canisters and a 3 blade. But I haven't done any tests at 9 ft. so not really sure.

OOOPS. Yepper, 9 feet would make a BIG difference. On the other hand, if it's 9 feet over grass rather than over a hard surface, that's gives another 2 dB to work with. I wonder what my plane's 94dB over grass reading would be at 9 feet? I get some weather, and I'll take a reading to find out.

Did sound tests at our club on Sunday. My BME 102 with a 27x10 Mejzlik was 102db at 9 ft; 94db at 25 ft. Hard surface.

My G-62 has been measured to 94dB at 9ft.
The engine is equipped with a Toni-Clark 3-chamber silencer and swinging an APC 22x10 7400rpm.
Although this is by no means a BME 102 I´m just trying to tell you that it is possible to quiet down large gassers.
