I know a lot of people use this stuff on their spark plug wires to keep the shielded cable from wearing through.
Has anyone had a problem with this stuff being effected by heat? I'm worried mine may be too close to the muffler and will melt if it gets too hot.

If you're concerned about the wrap, you should be doubly concerned about the plug wire itself. Keep those items at least an inch away from the muffler any way you can.

I use the split plastic cable guard. I cannot find the spiral type anymore. The kind I use is "ringed", but it has a split the entire length of the tubing. It is easy to slide over the plug wires to protec tthem. I use a tie-wrap at the end on the plug to keep it in place. It does not get anywhere near the exhaust and has never melted.

The trade name of the split plastic stuff is "loom". It works out just fine.
