Default One more 3w-100 question

I finally got the carb sorted out on my 3w-100, the carb intake did the trick.
Now, the motor runs great, but dies 8 minutes into the flight? Five flights in a row and it died at 8 minutes on all of them. It didnt do this a couple of days ago when the temp. was 40 F, but now the temp has been in the 60s.
Does this sound like the ignition module is getting too hot or something?

That is usually the sign that it is over heating or just plain dieing. Try placing the ignition where it has better air flow and cooler air..

Last summer I had the same problem. Mine was closer to 15 minutes of run time. At that point in the flight, I would lose one cylinder. I replaced the ignition and the problem was solved. My ignition unit was under the cowl, on top of the motor box. I bought a DA ignition because I was mad at 3W. The DA is a similar design and is compatible with the 3W motor (at least the 3W I bought 5 years ago).

Now today, I have discovered that my 8 month old DA ignition is also bad. I'm going to look for another source. I have had three ignition failures in 5 years.

Do you think the module is bad? Or should I move it around until I find a place with better cooling?

If you're not flying due to weather, call Terry at CH and see if perhaps he should (could) take a look at it. It could be something as simple as a cap, or something a bit more worrisome. He's the expert, and I'd go with his call if it were mine.

Have you swapped the sides to see if the problem persists on the other side?

What happens is that the motor runs perfect on both cylinders, then after 8 minutes it starts cutting out, then after another minute or so it just dies. But up to that point, it runs great. It does seam like a tempeture thing because it didnt do it when the outside air temp. was 40 and below.
This motor is fairly new and only has 3-4 gallons through it. Could the module go bad that fast?

Just an FYI, I've personally seen modules give up anywhere from out of the box to after 40 hours of continuous running. Several have given up on either one or both sides in as little as 15 to 30 minutes of running time. They were all from the same maker you have. Again, give CH a call. There are some really good reasons to go with that ignition over what you have.

Also, since it seems to be heat related, where is the best place to mount the module to keep it cool?

Probably the refridgerator. A little more realistic is some place that gets direct and constant airflow to it, 100% of the time. Good luck.
