Grayoon, How goes things??
Yes, I do have a little experience with these .
Let me say right off the bat,That unless I misread the owners manual telling the new owner that 5% oil was sufficient, (in the fuel/oil mix) I`m guessing this is wrong. This is, in my opinion a little lean on oil content And, as I was pecking out those words. I Thought it prudent, to go into my model room, dig out my old paperwork on my 1.8 and verify the oil mix. Sure enough, there is a booklet there saying that 25% is the correct amt, Then there are two additional sheets of information there, stating that either 5% or 8% are correct. Well, let me say that I now have an unuseable crankshaft, And, I was running the 5% mix......Don`t do that!!
I also think that 25% is a little on the rich side. At the very least, double check your paperwork. On the briter side, I ran the 1.8 for a little less than three gallons of fuel. During which I found the 18X10 Zinger props to give me 72/7400 rpm this was a little high so an 18X12 probably have been better, Or it`s 20 inch counterpart. (These are considered Longstroke motors) so check the paperwork and don`t over rev the thing. (My papers say that 6400 is the top of the brake horsepower, that is if i`m interpreting the Italian script, correctly) My elevation here is 320 feet. Temp. that day was probably 72/76 F. I did find that I would use a starter most times for cold and hot starts saved a lot of flipping, Seemed to loose it`s prime easily. I did like the motor overall, Found it to be a little underpowered for a 22 pound plane , would fly scalelike, though.
I did experiment with 5% and 10% nitro a little better ,not alot.
I still have two of these motors and that brings me to this. If you ,or anyone you know, damage one of these motors to the point that it is no longer flyable .I really need a crankshaft or a parts motor,Whichever I can find first. So, damaged or not if your`s becomes available drop me a line would ya,Please

From: Raleigh,
NC,
Bipeman, the paperwork I got for mine says 5% oil. But I don't think it's from OPS but rather from the distributor, Shamrock Imports. Also, I have a engine review from "Radio Control Models & Electronics" (an old magazine review) where they also specified using 95% methanol and 5% castor. Because of the needle bearings at both ends of the piston rod they are not supposed to need a lot of oil. More oil than necessary is said to make the carb adjustments more critical.
Maybe your crank damage is from a combination of overrevving, and using nitro? You are not supposed to use nitro in these. Where is the damage, on the crank pin or the shaft?
I have heard that these are even being converted to gasoline/ignition running on 40:1 gas/oil.
