Default MVVS45 pitts muffler

Hi

I'm looking for a wrap around pitts muffler for an MVVS 45 (just about to leave for the lhs to pick it up). The engine is going in a PA Edge540 - no room for a can. I've seen some people mention they are using a slimline pitts muffler, but I don't see one for the MVVS listed on their site. Any suggestions.

Also, looking for prop suggestions, most rpm figures I've seen are when using a can.

Vincent.

Go to www.jtecrc.com and check out their mufflers. They're fully welded with large diameter tubes. They don't have one listed for the 45, but they build them to order. I got one for my MVVS 58. See if they'll make you one.

Alternative - A Jén compact wrap around.

Check it out at

www.justengines.co.uk

go the MVVS engine page and then scroll down, click on "45 IRS", and you will see a picture of the muffler installed on the engine.

I have bought many times from this business and have never had any issues.

I have heard that the ZDZ 60 Bisson pitts muffler will bolt right up. I have used them with no problem on my ZDZ 80. And if that is the case any pitts muffler for the ZDZ 60 should work. David Moem, MVVS in Canada, has recomended this before.

The Bisson Pitts muffler for a ZDZ 60 will indeed bolt right up... I have one on my MVVS 45 that's installed in a Wild Hare Edge 540. I am currently using a Bolly Carbon 22-8 and getting 7,000 rpm on the ground.

It's a great engine and have had excellent support from David Moen of MVVS Canada.

Thanks. I did some research, and it seems Bisson have a wrap around pitts muffler for the evolution 45 , which is the same as the MVVS, so I ordered one(not sure if its the same muffler as the one for the ZDZ).

I have to say though, bisson doesn't the best online ordering system I've ever seen, no confirmation email, nothing. I guess the order went through cos they charged my card, I hope it's shipped already.

I am currently using a Bolly Carbon 22-8 and getting 7,000 rpm on the ground.
I'm undecided prop wise, I was thinking a Mejzlik 23x8 but couldn't find any locally. I have a JXF 22x10 Wood prop, not sure if this is going to be too much prop or not.

Thanks for the info guys.

Regards

Vincent

I bought one of their mufflers for a G-62 in a warbird. It doesn't look very quiet to me. Anyone have any observations on it?

I got a nice wraparound from Bisson. It is special design for 45 and the serial number was #5545. It wasn't listed in the catalog since it was new. I ordered with all buffling removed to gain some power. Its price - if my memory serves me well was
98$ plus shipping. But keep in mind that it will significiantly limit your power. I measured 6780 RPM with 22x8 Menz S at 30:1
oil at the second tank. This is approx. 4.1Hp far away from the listed horsepower. I hope that this will improve as the engine breaks in....

We do make a wraparound style Pitts for the MVVS/EVOLUTION 45. Its not listed on the website yet because we are totally redoing the site. We did all the prototype work for Horizon on the Evolution gas engines. (same as MVVS)

The power is very good on them and they work well on noise. I suspect the gentleman that bought a muffler for his G62 in a warbird probably has one of the upright-inverted box type in cowl mufflers. Lets put it this way, in cowl box type mufflers will not be the quietest muffler due to there volume no matter who manufactures it.

The wraparound pitts style that we make for both the MVVS /EVOLUTION 45 and 58 weigh 8.4 oz and are all tig welded for durability..

Here are a couple of pictures of the wraparound style mufflers that we make. We can customize them to fit you plane also as we build them when ordered.

In one of the photos you will notice a larger pitts style wraparound, this is our large style pitts .I t has much larger volume can. This style muffler has been tested on a DA 50 with noise results at 95db at 9 feet and 94 db at 9.8 feet. It will fit most planes in the 50 to 80 cc class.

Thanks
