This engine is mounted in an Extra 260 by H9 and after approx. 30 minutes run time on the ground, when range checking with the engine running, I experienced severe radio interference twice. I took it home and it runs fine with no interference issues. Has anyone had intermintent ignition module problems with this engine? Also, when cold, I have to prime it directly to get it started. It does not want to prime with the choke. Any solutions before I send it back? Thanks.

Lot,
As to the carb issue, remove the carb, disassemble and clean out all the lubricant that Walbro packs these things with, especially on the diaphram side. It seems the fuel check valve gets gummed in place and wont work properly at low cranking speeds. Clean it out and it will choke normally. When you put it together and hook the crankcase pressure line up you should see the fuel in the fuel line move a little when you 'rock" the engine back and forth.
For the ignition this is a bit strange as this box and spark lead are all shielded. You do have a separate ignition battery installed, right? When using an FM rx I do see a reduction in range but only 4 or 5 paces when the engine is running. I usually have one of those ferrite rings on my throttle servo lead as the throttle servo is mounted right next to the engine. Have the choke servo there as well. Makes for much better linkages. With PCM rx there is no change in ground range at all from engine off to engine on. I would suggest moving things around one thing at a time until you see some difference. Radio brand can offer different characteristics in ignition models. JR should be solid or send it in.

I have the same motor and I also have to prime it to get it to start. Runs like a champ once it starts. first one I had I sent back to Horizon to see why it wouldn't draw fuel, and they couldn't get it to draw either and sent me a new motor. New one has the same problem, so I have learned to live with priming on cold starts with full choke. The plug has to be FILLED with fuel twice to start it every time.
