I can send you this one if you want to put it in something to fly there..I made it to see what could be done, used a cylinder from a crash that has a few fins broken on the front..Nothing serious, just cosmetic damage..Tried a CM6 spark plug in a homemade adapter, ran 7200 rpm with a Dynathrust 22-10...Changed to a Champion RCJ7Y, got 7700 rpm..Must be the slight difference in compression, the CM6 was not flush in the chamber..I'll bring it along anyway, just for kicks..
All you EXPERTS out there that say G62s are overweight-----
You're comparing a stock magneto ignition G62 to a CONVERSION with a machined crankcase and hub using an INDUSTRIAL cylinder...How about apples to apples, electronic ignition to electronic ignition...
This is a CHAINSAW cylinder with a CAST crankcase and lighter hub and electronic syncro spark ignition....3 lbs, 10 oz, with ignition, no muffler or battery...

Wow... That's lighter than the Evolution/MVVS 58 and probably less expensive. How does the power compare?

Don't know, never had an MVVS 58..The MVVS should be stronger, it's a reed valve engine...The G62 is $525
The power might compare if the G62 is run it its power band, not lugged down with an oversize prop...
The Toni Clark website is the best source of that type information for all Zenoah engines...
The numbers for the MVVS/Evolution 58 vary widely here on the forum...

I wish I had something for your engine that was ready to fly. I could drop that old chainsaw motor in there and show a few people how well it can cut the air
That is sure a big difference in rpm. If you could sink the CM6 plug in a little further, you could call it the Super Lite G62. Why stop there, put in 2 plugs, raise it to 15:1, and call it the Super D lite G62

It's a little deceiving, the DynaThrust 22-10prop is less load than most others, but since Mejzliks are $$ I use that one..
Just for kicks I just stuck a PK 24-8 on it and got 6400 rpm..PK props are hard to turn...I don't see that much difference between the G62 and the Evolution 58..
This is with no muffler at all, with a pipe or can it would surely be better...

This will be the first
Tried something else, put a WT76A carb on it, smaller and a little lighter, $15 cheaper, lost about 100 rpm..[8D]

Well I have an extra cylinder laying around here somewhere. If you have the extra parts to go with it, I will send it to you for an experiment. Then you can see how much you can get away with before it cooks.

I can do it with this one, it already has some fins broken off in front..Waiting for my temp gauge from Harbor Freight....
I'll put a stock cylinder on and run it wide open for a few minutes, the put this one back on and trim until it's gets to about 400F, that should be about right

Yep, that's about the temp you do not want to pass by much, or at least for 3W's. The do not last more than 1 mission when flown in a UAV at that temp or higher.....
But then again, it's not a 3W, it might like it

Ralph
can't tell from the picture. Did you thin the fins as well as cut the diameter? I use a parting tool and thin them. It is amazing how much weight you can remove from some cylinders and it makes them look more uniform after cutting them down.

With that clever modification to install propeller you could use a hub which is made of carbon fiber. If the total thickness around the grankshaft does not matter you could lathe guite simple molds which press carbon and epoxy with high pressure to achieve durable yet strong hub which cross shape remain of T with a tapered hole inside.

The fins on a G62 are already pretty thin....I can try, maybe a few grams less..
There are other things that could be done, but the cost starts to go up...The things already done cost little or nothing, we don't need anothe $600 engine

Just kidding

I am really interested in how much weight we save on the twin. Should make it very competitive with others of its cubes.

I think what a lot of guys miss in all this is that now we will have engines that are totally competitive with the more expensive flavor but don't require exotic or synthetic oil to run. I appreciate being able to use Lawnboy or Pennzoil as opposed to Honda HP1 like my ZDZ's need. Also, Zenoah's are known as workhorses. They just run and run. This doesn't change with your improvements.

Much simpler and easier.

Did someone say "TWIN"??? As in, GT-80 Twin? I got 1 you can experiment with. It's brand new. Has C&H on it, as well as aluminum mufflers.

Hank's engine is almost done, I can weigh it tomorrow....
Weigh yours as it is now, we'll compare...
