Hi,
Can anyone provide some feedback on using a 3 -blade prop with a ZDZ8- RV? I am chosing a 3-blade specifically for ground clearance.
Cheers

What kind of feedback you want ? I have used them, with absolutely no problems. Biggest problem,--- they cost more, the spinners cost more, Used a 22/10, and a 22/12 on a ZDZ-80. They will slow the plane a lot quicker than a 2 blade, so if your use to landing the plane with a 2 blade and go to a 3 blade, keep the rpm's up just a little until you get use to it. (At least this is my experience with Bipes. )

Hi H. Wayne S,
Thanks, that's what I wanted to know some pitch and prop sizes for a 3-blade on the ZDZ80. I hear your point about the slowing of the plane. It's a new engine and plane so this information will be useful.
Cheers

WOW, I am using a 24/10 three blade on a new ZDZ Blue Head on a 330 Extra 22 lbs and seems to be doing OK.
This is what Desert Aircraft recommemended.
Not knowing that much about three blades, but in the 22 and 21 inch range seems small?????
H Wayne, what are you using your blades on, etc.......?
Flying mine in IMAC, etc........upline power is good, downlines seems to be the same with two or three blade, need to compare as only 20 flights on this three blade/new engine combo and have not flown the two blade that much this year....

Hello Sir, I fly IMAC in Advanced category with my 30% Extra 300 Carden, weight of 24 lb.
I fly 3 blades Biella 24 X 12 at 5600 RPM with super vertical and 3 blades Mejlick 24 X 10 at 6300 RPM.
This is my value and I personnelly recommand those props with out any problems.
See you, Yves

OK My set up is a ZDZ-80 blue head, on a Capster, A Capster is a H-9 330S fuse with H-9 Cap wings and an H-9 Edge Elevator. You would not believe the way this thing flys, It harriers like a Cap, side slips like a 330, and flips and tumbles like nothing you have ever seen.
I fly 3D and I like the instant power, the 21/10 gives it. I have had as large as a 24/12 on it and it does fine for pattern flying, My personal preference is the 21/10, it does not lug the engine, the engine has a very quick response when I throttle up.
This is a personal preference thing, unfortunately one has to buy several props before they find the one that works best for there application.

The above info is good and would be more useful if type/manufacturer of prop, rpm and type of exhaust system would be included.
Thank you and Good Luck

Wildhare Giles. ZDZ80RV w/pitts muffler.
3-blade props:
Fuchs 22-11 5750RPM
Menz S 22-10 6100RPM
3W Carbon 21-10 5900RPM
Bolly Carbon 21-13 5500RPM
I prefer the 3W 21-10. Great vertical. Slows down okay on downlines. Engine RPM is good and engine spool up is very good. Instant vertical from hover.

Lang,
Just for your reference. I use a 3W75iUS with a 3W 23X11 3-blade propeller on my 32.8 pounds giant scale Corsair. I got 5700 rpm even when the engine is still in its breaking-in period.

Hmmmm.
I'm using yhe following props on a ZD80RV-J with full pipe KS1080
Mejzlik 25 x 12 3-blade 5740 rpm
Mejzlik 26 x 12 3-blade 5000 rpm
Mejzlik 28 x 12 2-blade 5600 rpm
I prefer the 25" as this fits best on the plane an engine running more happy, great braking on downlines watch out for landings.
brgds

joenella,
What plane are you flying with those props? Do you have any pictures of the plane with the prop on?
Thanks
