The power the engine provides in regards to the C.E. and the Pitts from Great Planes is not as relevent at the weight added. The lighter you keep either plane the better off and higher performing it will be. With either plane, the use of a 50cc engine up front requires that weight be moved to the rear for a good balance.

Given the choice to do it over aging I would use a styrong and light 40cc engine. Check the sizes close to that for a better performing plane due to a lighter weight. If you still feel that you need a 50cc engine, the BME and DA are currently the lightest.

I have a FPE 52cc in my Great Planes Pitts and I just had to add 2 ounces of lead to the engine box to balance to plane. The engine runs great and is very dependable. One thing about the FPE engines is that the muffler is included in the price and is beautifully made and has the FPE logo on it. I bought mine from SIG about 2 or 3 years ago and have never had any problems with it. Bill

I have a Fox 3.2 (52cc) on the GP Pitts.

It balances perfect with 2 JR4721 elevator servos in the tail. 1 JR 4721 rudder servo in the tail. And 1 JR911 tailwheel servo in the tail.

My tank is on the CG. My throttle servo is about 3" forward of the back of the wing saddle. My RX and both 2100mah 6V MH batteries are also on the same tray as the throttle servo. Thats all just slightly in front of the rear point of the bottom wing saddle.

I mounted my engine and all my servos, then I made a tray for the throttle servo, RX, and batteries. There is a spot inside the fuse where you can slide that tray back and forth about 7" between the middle and the back of the wing saddle.

I'm using DuBro Heavy Duty .40-.91 control horns on my ailerons. Stock # 867 I have 4 aileron servos. JR4721

I'm using DuBro #866 HD control horns on the elevators and the rudder.

Probably too much detail, but I wanted to give you an idea of where most of my weight was at.

well here is the thing..........i looked on great planes site are there recommended gear........it said fuji50 was for budget but
recommended a fuji 64? if this is true it would explain why the 50 just didnt have the power topull the plane really well. But with my fuji 50 on my christian eagle it balanced perfect alittle nose low. So what im wondering if i go with a DA50 i will have more power and less weight, but then ill have add alot of weight to balance the plane so then im back to where I started. Is this a correct assumption?
Any other gas engine out there that has lots more power and runs great that i could put on my plane that will do the job?

Hi!
Best engine would be a MVVS 45cc .
Most powerful in its class.

But will it turn a 20-10 10,000 rpm like a CRRC45i
It must be true, it's in another thread here
You want some power, get a 3W 80i for $600 from AI, probably no heavier than the Fuji...

I have to agree with Jan not because i am a dealer but because i have tried this engines and they are powerful over there class and as well the new ignition that the company will start supplying the 45cc from now on (ICU-S) is coming with control of chokes servo for easy start , which as far i know is the first company who includes an automatic choke . For more information you can contact to the distributor of USA which is Morris Hobbies

The Fuji 50 (46cc) will fly this plane fine for non-3d type flying. My good friend has this combo with electric start and smoke and it flies it fine, again not 3d. Fully loaded with fuel, smoke oil and battery for the electric start, it flies like a brick. Yes better is lighter but don't be afraid of the Fuji 50. Just be aware of some of the problems they have had though. There are some threads on that subject.
