Does anyone know who builds a good ignition? or is there such a thing.
I have less than 2 gallons of fuel thru my new engine and the ignition crapped out.
I will send it in for warranty work, but when it runs out of warranty I will be looking for a new ignition.

So you think Bill's ignition is one of the best? I had a problem with one of his new out of the box on my BME 110.
He did take care of me though.

Falkon had a bad run of ignitions, mainly resistor problems. The ignition on my new BME 50 shot craps after 8 flights but I was aware of the problem ahead of time as Keith warned me about it. Keith took care of me no problem, will have the edge back to the field tommorrow.

Racing is going well, Unlimited are coming back, GT80 is growing...Come on up to Ohio in August...
Anybody's ignition can go bad, it's how the manufacturer takes care of the customers that makes the difference, and how the units perform...C&H is the best I have seen in my 19 years of conversions..

FWIW. I have had 2 3W ignitions and 1 DA ignition fail in the last 6 years. And what is especially frustrating is that all three failures were intermittent (I think heat related) so they were not easy to diagnose. I wish they would just fail like a light bulb.

It's a pitty though than one cannot order by email, C&H I mean.

The only racing I do is in the chow line but, you're right, any ignition can go bad. I had it happen and the biggest problem is in diagnosing that's the problem. If you know that's the problem, no sweat, just get it fixed or replaced. One of the biggest problems is that it's one of those things that won't just go on and break, it tends to fail intermittently making it harder to diagnose.

After 9 yrs. of extensive use, the ignition on my Zenoah G-45 has never failed, never deadsticked, ticks like a watch on idle, and seems to get stronger every season...

Really?? Never heard that one before....... must be the oil it's running on ..lol

Is the ignition on your G45 the stock magneto or is it an electronic system.

Yes, the G-45 has the stock flywheel -mag ignition..about the only thing that will keep it from working properly, is a wreck. The largest advantage I see to an EI is, it smooths out the idle on the Zenoahs.....Though reliable as sunrise, the Zs are real shakers at idle.
The EI is also somewhat lighter, and allows flip starts...

I know all about the Zenoah's reliability and strength as I have a workhorse of a G45, and a G23 which runs as smooth as glass after being converted to EI by Ralph. The lifetime warranty he offers on his work can't be beat.

i after a load of trouble with the ignition on my YW50cc twin, i sent to C/H for one of there units its superb, i would recommend C/H to anyone that has trouble with there ignition!! {there the best!!!} regards Doug Evans {South Wales U.K}

Unfortunately, the more parts put into a device, that can and is enclosed by a pretty cowl, the more overheating it causes. Which shows up in some nasty problems, because it cools off on the landing approach.

Magnetos on outboards run for over 50 years. Snowmobiles 30 years. How many of todays Hi-Tech engines will be running 15 years from now ?

Hi-Tech -- CAN be another way of saying. Make it cheaper. The customer has few choices.

That's why they ceased using them (magnetos) in automobiles a long time ago, right From experience I know that a CH ignition is extremely reliable and works for longer than most will ever fly an engine. Those that have more than 400 running hours on an engine/ignition combination, please raise your hand. Not 400 flights, 400 or more hours. Those few that raised your hands, how many of you have 1,200 hours or more on an engine/ignition?

The CH units make it there all the time. BTW, the century changed 7 years ago. It's now the 21st.

I can assure you that being lucky in some situations beats being good hands down....

I have stuff break from time to time like anyone else but usually I can work it backwards and see where something I did brought about the failure. Not always, but usually.

I have found that never taking a new car back to a dealer for any services, means I never have any problems.

30 years of that attitude works for me. I do have 1 mechanic that I follow around for my second car repairs. I check his work and it is damm good.
